Stiff steering turning right-intermediate shaft?

I think I have an issue with my steering. It doesn't make any unusual noises or anything, but when turning to the right about 40-80% travel it feels stiffer then normal. Kinda as if it were groaning but without the accompanying groaning noise. I can notice it when backing out of the driveway at slow speeds etc.
I have read the posts on intermediate shaft lubing and eventual replacement, but I'm not sure if this is the problem or not. The belt is good and the power steering fluid level is normal.
Does anyone have an update on the steering shaft backorders? I gather they cost about $120? It doesn't look TOO hard to replace myself.
Any thoughts?
