transmission oil

okay guys, i got a '95 g20t and have no clue about how to add tranny oil to my car.. or how to check to see how much i have. anyone know? thanks.

Let me see if I can help. Now you should be able to find it. I don't have a G20 so just bear with me. It should be located either opposite or on the same side as where the oil dipstick is. Look towards the lower section of the engine on either side or to the front. You should see a second dipstick. That would be the one for the tranny. And, in case you didn't know, the engine should be warm and running when checking it. As for where to enter it, you should be able to see a cover that says transmission fluid only somewhere on either side of the engine. Sometime car manufacturers have them near the antifreeze reserve container. Hope that helps.

If you have a slushbox, I can't help you.

If you have a manual gearbox, the filler hole is facing the front of the car, approximately in the middle of the gearbox. It has a plug with a square "hole" for your wrench. The hole in the plug is a little larger than 3/8", so you may or may not be able to get it off with a 3/8" rachet since they tend to be pretty tight. Be sure you can get the filler plug out before draining the old fluid. :jump:

thanks george. it's a manual.. infact, you got a ride in it at saltfest after the coilovers were installed. :D

after putting a connecting rod through the block, i now have a jspec sr20 engine in the g.. just need to add tranny oil, set the timing and adjust the tps voltage and i'm good to go.. i hope. it idles very rough right now.

Ah, I remember Jon. I'm running 340/275 on my coilovers, but I'm going to try 275/200 this week. On the trip to and from the convention my car rode at least as good as stock with some weight in it, so I'm thinking the lower rates may really help. :D

Let me know if you can't find the plug. And like I said, be sure to get the filler plug out before you drain the oil. If you're not using Redline, Motul, or NEO, now would be a great time to do so. It really makes the shifting slick. I haven't tried NEO. I've used Redline and Motul. They are equally slick, but the Redline smells sweet and the Motul smells worse than baby doo doo. :eek:
