Ford, Mustang & other Fords

Is it just me or does Ford need to get their sh-- together? We have a pony car that's got 300 horses...not bad. But considering Dodge is coming out with a 425 horse Charger, and I believe the 300C is going to 425 horses also, Ford needs to react. The Cobra is to Dodge what the Viper is, therefore the Mustang GT is in the class of the Charger, and right now it don't look pretty. Down 125 horses? WTF?

The Mustang GT needs to get up to at least 350 horses and I'd say, 3.73 gears from the factory. And what else is there? What about the Crown Vic? When is it gonna get re-vamped? Chrysler is making a killing on the 300's, as ugly as I and many others think it is. Why? That damn Hemi that currrently gives it 340 horses.

Ford needs to make the Ford '49, and the Ford 427. They need to go about 325 horses each, and they need some gears.

Hell, my Mach 1 stock as it is, is no match for the Dodge and Chryslers that are coming out...how ridiculous is that. Gettin' beat down by a 4 door sedan. Again, WTF?

And on the economy side all there is is the Focus. Lot a people lookin for mileage and Ford doesn't have much to offer.

Guess I'm just venting, but it is sad to see what is going on at Ford. They need to get their act together. And pretty quick I would say.

id say i disagree, and for the economy car, have you ever heard of the ford fusion? its coming out this year. and i dont know how many people are gonna buy that charger cause it looks like my asscrack. also how much is that charger going to cost? and the cobra is not in the class with the viper, upper 30k car vs 80k car. not same class. actually im really really excited to see everything that ford is doing

umm yeah the Gt500 is comin out in 07 what was it 425, 450 horse? and you can buy it for about 40k from what ive read. and if anybody needs to get their shit together its GM.

Viper=Cobra?!?! yea let's just forget that a Viper is the cost of two Cobra's.

That's like a Dodge fan going the Viper=the Ford GT and that Dodge needs to step-up. The Viper is not equal to the GT, the GT is way more money and beats the fuck out of it in every aspect as it should.

Also before I get into the Charger let's look at the Dodge SRT-10 ok great it is faster than the Lightning.... but look at the price difference.... Ever big Dodge dealership I see they have the same 4-5 SRT-10's sitting on the lot they can't sell em!!!!

The DCC has lost their mind great they make these big hp cars but no1 will buy them cause of the cost. They are doing the same exact thing wit the Charger as the SRT-10.

Ford has their crap together. A cheap car with 300hp and under $30k with a V8.... how many cars are in the market at that level? Also, the hp might be higher with other cars, but what is the power to weight ratio of those compared to the mustang. Just because they make more power, does not mean they are faster.

The Cobra is to Dodge what the Viper is, therefore the Mustang GT is in the class of the Charger, and right now it don't look pretty. Down 125 horses? WTF?

Wrong, the Viper is more of the competator to the Ford GT or better yet the Jaguar XKR Coupe, and the new Vett. The viper is a two door, two seat monster. Dodge has the SRT 4 that is closer in competition to the Mustang GT as far as performance and price. The Cobra is not meant to compete against a $50~$80k car, but does so, in performance.

Actually I don't agree, because it will take out the other potentual models, I would love to see the return of the Mach 1 and Bullit, and the Boss a differnt Cobra and a few other name plates. You need to have ways to differentiate the different models, and not just by HP alone.

I could see the another Bullit designed more for autocross, a Mach 1 more for 1/4 mile racing. And a boss that is somewhere inbetween, and another Cobra with IRS, for those that want corning carving and long distance driving. IF anything, I would expect to have a V6 with 250hp and torque.

What about the Crown Vic? When is it gonna get re-vamped? Chrysler is making a killing on the 300's, as ugly as I and many others think it is. Why? That damn Hemi that currrently gives it 340 horses.

The crown vic is a work horse, and yes it does need to be replaced, but what can you make that large that the public wants. Usually something that large would be replaced by a people mover like the Freestyle. The 300 is nice, but Dodge has to make other varients of it (Magnum & Charger) in order to make it profitable in the long run. It does help, but not everyone is flocking to those products. HP does not sell everything.

Ford needs to make the Ford '49, and the Ford 427. They need to go about 325 horses each, and they need some gears.

Performance is not everything, otherwise we all would be driving race cars.

Hell, my Mach 1 stock as it is, is no match for the Dodge and Chryslers that are coming out...how ridiculous is that. Gettin' beat down by a 4 door sedan. Again, WTF?

Take another look at what your comparing. They are differnet classes of cars. And are you really getting beat down that badly? I know with my car and the few mods I have, I'm not getting beat down. Hell I just picked on a new 6.0L GTO... and won that battle. The GTO is the closest competator to the mustang right now. 2 doors, 4 seats, long hood, short deck and V8 powered.

And on the economy side all there is is the Focus. Lot a people lookin for mileage and Ford doesn't have much to offer.

Ford has more than one line of cars... you need to look at the Mazda line.

Guess I'm just venting, but it is sad to see what is going on at Ford. They need to get their act together. And pretty quick I would say.Thoughts?

I think you need to take a complete look at the entire Ford line and compare it to the competators. The only thing Ford is really missing is a Hybrid CAR.

Well, Ford should bring the Falcon to America.

check here

Australian Ford Falcon (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=379989)

I don't think the new Mustang competes with the new Dodge Charger and/or new Chrysler 300.

There is more to a performance car than just power.

The standard Mustang needs a new engine far more than the GT needs one. Ford is developing a new 3.5 liter V-6 with at least 260 hp.

Ford is kicking ass and taking names.

The target market for Dodge Charger includes trendsetting, young affluent males with incomes from $65,000 - $90,000.

http://www.dodge.com/autoshow/news/

Lets see here, a $25,000 DAMN SEXY car against something that is a sin against nature. Besides I didn't see any 425 horsepower option there. The largest I saw was the 340 horsepower 5.7 Hemi.

The Cobra is to Dodge what the Viper is, therefore the Mustang GT is in the class of the Charger, and right now it don't look pretty. Down 125 horses? WTF?

The Viper sucks for what it is. The '03 Cobra gave it a run and I'm sure the new Shelby will either beat or stay with it.

The GT-40 is cheaper than a Ferrari and is faster, quicker, and handles better, yet Motortrend thought that since the Ferrari was a Ferrari it was better than the Ford?

The Mustang GT needs to get up to at least 350 horses and I'd say, 3.73 gears from the factory.

To put 3.73s in a car is re-gosh darn-diculous. Remember we're living in a time of gas milage here. Also, 300 horsepower for 25 grand is pretty good.

Chrysler is making a killing on the 300's, as ugly as I and many others think it is. Why? That damn Hemi that currrently gives it 340 horses.

I'm not worried.

Ford needs to make the Ford '49, and the Ford 427. They need to go about 325 horses each, and they need some gears.

The Ford 427 was dumped in favor to make way for the Shelby GR-1. This is a good example of Ford engineering. A 6.0 V10 with 600 horsepower and 500 pounds of torque.

Hell, my Mach 1 stock as it is, is no match for the Dodge and Chryslers that are coming out...how ridiculous is that. Gettin' beat down by a 4 door sedan. Again, WTF?

What's your point? Guys with Corvettes from the 80s are in the same boat. At the time their car was a force not to mess with but over time cars got quicker.

And on the economy side all there is is the Focus. Lot a people lookin for mileage and Ford doesn't have much to offer.

This is the only thing Dodge has going for them. The SRT-4 is a good, cheap, and well engineered car. SVT is getting ready to take the Focus and the Mazda 6 and are planning to take the SRT-4 down.

Guess I'm just venting, but it is sad to see what is going on at Ford. They need to get their act together. And pretty quick I would say.

Ford's top car, the GT-40, is kicking European exotic ass for the price. Lets not forget the engine in it is used in their trucks so the aftermarket is nice and big. Can you think of any Ferrari that has that going for them?

Ford's image car, the Mustang, is killing everything in sight at the dealerships. You can't beat its performance for the price and with a few simple bolt ons you'll be flying.

Ford's F-150 is still the #1 selling truck in the world.

The 6.0 V10 that's in the GR-1 and the A/C Cobra concept was blue printed after the Cobra's 4.6 and the GT-40's 5.4 engines. The thing is 2.3L smaller than a Viper and making 100 more ponies. It's also in the performance range of most, if not all, exotics.

Ford's Mustang took out the Camaro and Firebird. GM's GTO isn't going to de-throne the Mustang anytime soon no matter what they do. Dodge's new Charger doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell. The '07 GT-500 is going to be knocking on the Z06's and Viper's performance door in a short 17 months.

The GT-40 may seem pricey to the Corvette or Viper but when you look in Europe it's cheaper and better.

Thoughts?

Just said them.

If you notice, Ford has had many inovations recently, new mustang, new cobra, new f-150, Ford GT, if you think about it Ford has put way more time and effort in than GM, Dodge, or anybody else. I dont care a rats ass about the ugly, and four door charger. Or the SRT-10 yeah, badass motor but pound for pound and dollar for dollar, i'd rather have a lightning. Lets not forget the price differance on just about everything as well. The Ford Shelby GR-1 is a concept right now. It has a 6.4 liter 605 hp V-10. Ford estimates the weight at 3,900 pounds which is a lot.

The 2007 Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 will be fast, but it won't have the handling of a Z06. The Z06 will weigh over 500 pounds less than the GT500.

The new Dodge Charger SRT8 has a standard 6.1 liter 425 hp V-8. The standard Dodge Charger R/T has a 5.7 liter 340 hp V-8.

What helps the new Mustang sell isn't just performance and styling...it is the quality that is now has.

Retro for the lines, other than that very innovative. Look what the Mustangs are doing to the BMWs in your other posts.

I watched a whole program on the build of the GT-40, trust me, they were very innovative to get the car to look the way it does, and still make it functional with today technology still inside.

The innovations arent really in the body, its whats inside. I think a Ford kicking an exotic cars ass is an innovation in itself. Ford explorors come with anti-roll technology now. Even to goto the extent of the new mustangs chassis, and the 04-up f-150s frame.

They are when you design them in a way to handle up there with the IRS cars in its price range.

actually, i would say an indie rear is better, less tire spin, and i also think ford is doing fine, like the GT, if you did happen to run into someone who could actually beat you, oh well, i dont think there's a car on the road that'll turn heads like the GT. GM does need help though, like the last year they made the camaro road and track magazine i think it was tested the camaro ss vs. the Mustang GT, and the Mustang GT gave a car that is more in the cobra's catagory one hell of a run for its money actually beating it in several of the test and very close in the rest of them, and lets not forget the 99 Cobra R, wasted the ferrari 550, the C5 Vette and the Viper

The Cobra R waster the Ferrari 550 Maranello and a Viper?

Car & Driver once tested a 2000 Cobra R and it did 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds, 0-100 mph in 11 seconds, and the 1/4 mile in 13.2 sec @ 110 mph. It has a top speed of 175 mph.

here is the article

Car & Driver article (http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=39&article_id=3206&page_number=1)

Motor Trend tested several performance cars in their July 1999 issue.

A Viper GTS did 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, 0-100 in 8.8 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.2 at 119.8 mph, one mile in 30.9 at 168.4 mph, and had a top speed of 186.8 mph which was 5.8 mph slower than a 1998 Viper GTS that they tested.

The 2001 Corvette Z06 outperformed the Cobra R for less money.

:bs: What gives BMW and Porshe the right to have a "stock" engine and Ford not to? The 5.0 Cammer is as much stock as a BMW or a Porshe.

As for the Cobra R thing. Car and Driver took a 2001 ZO6, 2000 Cobra R, and a 2001 Viper out to Daytona. When the lap times were put together the Corvette was first, the Cobra second, and the Viper was third.

stock can be defined many different ways, but talking about the engine is missing the point, you basically said that live axles were shitty, but this car with one keeps winning the grand-am cup races, and obviously the engine complies with the rules of the series. and stang 805, solid axles have been proven better in the 1/4 than IRS. now on the cobra R beating those cars... well im not gonna back u guys on this, the cobra R has 385 hp, less than those other cars by a good margin. and i dont know why that was even brought up because that is an older car... we are talking about what ford is doing NOW in this thread. but stang 805, i totally agree with what you said on the ford gt. did you know it actually ran faster lap times than the ferrari saleen? it cant beat an enzo tho. but that costs 4 times as much

It would just seem more fair for the Mustang in Grand-Am Cup to run with the 4.6 liter 300 hp V-8 from the production GTs just as the BMW M3s and Porsche 911s run with stock production engines.

Ultimately, I'm very excited that the new Mustang is racing. I'm very tired of seeing BMW M3s and Porsche 911s winning.
