Just making sure

Heya all,
Just bought me a 93 4wd/4d blazer 4.3. So far I love it (anyone wanna buy a Lumina?{g}), but, it's doing a few things that I'm not familiar with (I deal mostly with older 350s/400s).

Oil Pressure: At times at a stop light the pressure will drop down to around 20, but will jump right back up to 40/45 while actually moving.

Puff the magic dragon? Occasionally on starting it'll puff a cloud of whitish smoke (smells like unused gas). Doesn't smoke while running, so I'm assuming the exhaust is holding condensation (going in for new stainless next week), but, want to see if anyone else has their truck do this.

Think that's it for now. So far it's been a great lil runner...138k, seems to have some killer gas mileage and so much easier to get kids in an out of!{g}

As to the puff of white smoke, this is normal as well. On our trucks, a little oil will go down the valve guides and burn off when started. Even if you replace the valve guides, it will be back in 6 mos.

white smoke = vapor of water ie condensation or coolent,
Blue smoke= oil burn off, a puff at startup is no problem at all
black smoke= rich mixture of air to fuel ratio

Puff of white smoke is normal and is water in the exhaust evaporating.

The white puff and exhaust my be white and smell a little rich seeing when the engine is warming up, the ECM commands the injectors to dump more fuel in.

You are completely good.

Mind you, if you get thick plumes of smoke, you have a blown head gasket. You will know the difference, it will fog everyone behind you. ;)

Erm, to quote Scooby...rut roh. It only does it once in a while, but, when she goes, it's a fairly large puff/cloud. I dunno if the vortecs are different from the standard V6s/V8s that I'm used to dealing with, but, typically when the head gasket goes it's a fairly constant stream of smoke from the exhaust, not just a quick cloud and done. (doesn't smoke at idle either). Mebbe it'll be the better part of valor to keep an eye on 'er.

I'ma be ticked if I bought a problem truck.

It is fine, if the headgasket is going, the smoke will be thick as hell.
