Shifting from 2nd to 3rd above 4500 RPMS quickly..

When I accelerate fast...(how can one not want to)..and I get to like 50 in 2nd...and then try to shift quickly (normally) up to 3rd....it grinds...but if I do it slowly and at a lower RPM it doesn't do it. So lately when I am driving fast, I have to like....giggle it in neutral and then slowly into 3rd...wtf

Are these my synchros? I really need to find out because I am going to take it into a dealer and I really am not in the mood to be bullshitted. Plus, if you people give me some info, I may be able to look like I know a lot about shit and that I will know if they are ripping me off..

Is the clutch all the way in? I was having the same problem for a while but here it's just a combination of shifting on the letout of the clutch. It wasn't fully in gear and I was letting out to fast. Which is why it works when you shift slower.

Try to shift fast but make sure it's in place before letting out the clutch see if that works for you.

yea it's down all the way, I make sure of that because I know that it's really bad to shift when it's not...for obvious reasons.. but it's just when I go INTO third gear....it's just a short grind...and it is hard to put in there..but if I giggle it a little and wait like 3/4 second then it goes in nicely and I just don't get it..and it sucks because I can't race..and I lose a lot of momentum.

when the synchoros went out on my bro nissan it got stuck in first and would not come out. If I was you I would just take it to a trans shop not the dealer the trans shop would most of the time tell you what it is and about the price to fix it for free the dealer is going to give you a charge just to look at it

good idea...but I have yet to find a place in town that won't freak out when I tell them I have first of all an eclipse..which they don't even know how to look at...and then on top of that.. and AWD manual...hardest to work on.........so.. the dealership so far is my only option.

Don't take it anywhere, they're just going to tell you that your 3rd gear synchro is going out and they're gonna have to replace it. Save yourself the time and the money, and buy 3 quarts of BG Synchroshift, or else Royal Purple Synchromax, and just have your tranny fluid replaced. It'll shift like new for a fraction of the cost. I had a horrible 1st gear grind that could only be bypassed by shifting from second to first at nearly a dead stop. After changing the tranny fluid w/ RP It'll drop into first at 25 mph with no problems.

Just my two cents ;)

sorry about that... the computer froze up and the back button only served to post at least two more times. Hopefully you have to read it twice :)

Get a new car.

THese cars are known for syncro issues, and all the super-mystery oil in the the world wont cure it. A trans rebuild will. If you have too much slop in the shifter cables, the problem could be aggravated and display worse than it would if you had everything tight. Have you done any of the bushing upgrades on the shifter base or trans?

I got this car for like...$2,000... I am just now going to be sending it in to the dealer for a diagnosis and transfer case work.

I want an AWD turbo.. I have to have one.. so I might as well work on this one.. I have another tranny on hand...hopefully that won't have synchro issues

Shift into first at 25 mph... why would you do that?
