At the beginig of the year I bought a 2002 Mountaineer, right after I bought it I heard a noise coming from the transmission. I took it to a transmission shop, the guy says is the converter inside the transmission.
Is anyone out there having the same problem, or this is normal in the Mountaineers?
I don't take it to the dealer because I bought "as is", it was cheap, but I guess what you pay is what you get.

Well raxxel, he means the torque converter. Can't say I've heard that those fail often, but explorers and mountaineers are known for some shifting problems depending on your model and transmission.
A little older and wiser now - transmissions are expensive. I always get two or even three opinions on expensive repairs. And I don't pull the trigger to get it fixed until two of them agree on whats wrong. There are a lot of parts swapperas out there.
It might pay to call the Ford dealer and find out what they charge for a diagnosis. They can read any trouble codes from the transmission, as well as give you a second opinion.
