sup dudes, I think i have a problem with my clutch or it could be something in the trasmition, im not sure. Well heres the problem. Ever since i bought the car, its been kinda hard shifting it into gears. I have to push hard while the clutch is all the way in, and then suddenly it just rips into gear, so theres resistance as i try to push the thing into gear. Then yesterday i sat into my friends Accord, and shifting in his car is like shifting through butter, although his shifts are long, mine are short due to the short shofter I bought a few weeks ago (its been hard pushing the thing into gear even before i got the short shifter, so thats not the problem). Anyways, can anybody help me diagnoss what might be the problem?
p.s. now my right arm got really jacked from all the pushing :naughty: lol j/k

the only thing i could think that could be wrong is not enough transmission fluid, because my friend has an 88 rx-7 and it was hard to get into gears, and it would scratch to third, and after we put transmission fluid in, it was muchhh better. but you know it could always be something wrong with how the bearings are

Same EXACT thing happened to me. Idk if this is your problems because im no mechanic, but it was my clutch master cylinder. You can get one on ebay for around $50. Hope this helps.

Could be the synchros, a common Honda problem.

Definitely sounds like a master or slave issue. I had this problem on my Integra and Prelude. It was impossible to shift, unless I would grind the gears. Very common in Hondas, but luckily a very cheap/quick thing to fix. Hope this helps.

I will change my tranny fluid. I have 3 quarts of Dexron ATF in my garage, will that be fine/good for myw 96 Prelude ith a Manual tranny? or would i have to get the Honda MTF?
whats the difference between MTF and ATF?
also, is Pennzoil Syncromesh Trans Oil bought only online or do AUtoZone or PepBOys have them and is it the best fluid for Manual trannys?? (compared to Honda MTF)?

do not user the fluid for an auto, hondas use regular oil in the manuel trannys to be safe in your case just get the honda manual fluid. I here gm syncromesh makes a difference or you could just get 5w40 oil and put in.

I have the same problem with my car too. Except mine wont go into third or fifth sometimes unless I really force it in there. oh and i'd go with the original oil.

ok, I used Honda Manual Tranny Oil. Its been 2 days since the change and the problem still persists. So i dont know.
How can i be sure dat it is the clutch cylinder dat is the problem?

The bad cylinder will be wet from fluid leaking out. Is the clutch engaged sitting still, in gear, with the pedal depressed.
