1999 Cougar V-6 Weapon R problem

I have a 1999 Couger...I just intalled a weapon R intake. After installation, the car likes to stall when I hold the gas at 1100rpm(in park). All air sensors are pluged in. Any1 have this problem or know what it coul be help me out?

You might need to reset the ecu. The weapon R intake just gave your car more air and if the ecu regulates the air like it used to do with the normal intake your engine is running too lean.

hey I have a 2000 cougar v6 5spd and i just installed an intake as well and have the exact same problems. After replacing the coil, spark plug wires, cat-converter, and spark plugs the car runs much better (because it began to misfire) but I noticed that the aftermarket intake kept slowly inching off while driving for longer periods of time. Since the EGR lines are circulated through the intake piping instead of the manifold, if there are any leaks in the pipe the car will perform poorly or even stall out depending on how big the leak is. So i built a bracket to hold the intake in place, clamped it down tight and went for a drive. the car ran great and sounded amazing, but as i was almost home it began to bogg down in power while accelerating again, and everything looks to be sealed up tight still... any ideas?

How does an ECU regulate airflow. You mean fuel right?
The MAF is whats calibrated for fuel delivery. Think of it this way. The MAF receives an input (airflow or CFM) and the delivers an ouput (fuel). Its calibrated for a pretty large range for CFM values. Actually, you can make about 300 hp on the stock MAF before it pegs at 5 volts. So just because your airflow has increased doesnt mean your PCM isnt going to have an idea as to how much fuel to deliver, because it does. Its calibrated from the factory.
Since the EGR lines are circulated through the intake piping instead of the manifold, if there are any leaks in the pipe the car will perform poorly or even stall out depending on how big the leak is
The EGR is not circulated into the intake piping. This is the PCV (Pressure Crankcase ventilation) system. These MUST be plugged into the intake piping or your car will stall. This is unmetered air since it enters after the MAF and as a result, must be taken into account within the stock tune even though its not actually reading it.
If your PCV isnt leaking, it may be due to the fact that the MAF adapter to the filter is severly undersized and has a sudden expansion leading from the filter to the MAF. This is going to create 'shock' pressure losses since the velocity distrubution is not uniform. Consequently, the MAF sensor will get an inaccurate reading.
The concensus amongst the Cougar community (www.newcougar.org) and the Contour community (www.contour.org) is that this intake is pretty much garbage. If I were you, I would get an K&N RU 3530 intake filter and a MAF adapter from www.batinc.net and call it a day. If you want the polished intake pipe, they have that too. Nobody complains about this setup.

I did get my intake running correctly and found out that it was my fuel filter that was clogged It ran much better after replacing it with a free flow. But its been about a week and its starting to lose power in the high rpm's again and after doing some reaserch i realized that my short runners are possibly not functionaing after I have been driving for a while, do you think the selenoid is malfunctionaing after its been running for a while? I do not know where the short and long runners are but right around 4000rpm i notice it never gets that extra boost we all know and love. any ideas where to get one also?

The long and short runners are inside the (UIM) upper intake manifold. If you take off the UIM, youll notice a primary and secondary port. You probably already know this. The length of the plenum of the LIM (lower intake manifold) are the same length, except the secondary ports have butterfly valves which open at 3750 RPMS.
If you open the hood and rev the engine from the throttle body, youll see the linkage connected to the lower intake manifold (right below the throttle body) move to open the butterfly valves. If the linkage moves, youve got another problem (I would guess fuel pump). If it doesnt move, you can either buy a new IMRC (Intake Manifold Runner Control) from the dealership or a used one from the cougar or contour message forum classifieds.
