Well I swore I'd never go back to FWD

So I chose the turbo RWD route.
Thats right, I've decided to convert to Nissan with a 91 white base 240sx complete with sr20det swap (stage 1 which comes with downpipe, mbc, front mount intercooler, exhaust/muffler, new fuel pump, AIR CONDITIONING, power steering and all the rest of those minor pieces such as new plugs and everything)
The car itself is crazy compared to what I'm used to and I'm used to driving an automatic eclipse GT which is no slug but absolutely nothing at all like the 240sx w/ the sr20det.
I got the swap done in tampa from a place called XAT Racing, really good guys who know what they're doing. When you roll up to their shop you can observe a series of extremely clean 240sx's varying from the early models to the later models as well as a few other miscellaneous nice cars as well. The swap is clean, she shifts smooth (first time on the stick was a learning experience) and the muffler is rediculously large but I'm beginning to like it due to its deep rumble.
Funtigo isn't responding well right now so I'm having trouble uploading my pictures but when I get them up I'll post them here ASAP.
I may include a soundclip if someone wouldn't mind hosting that as well.
People who remember me as PearlGT may recall me favoring mitsubishi over the rest but I just had to come to terms with what I really wanted and the only nice turbo eclipses around my area for sale were just GST's waiting to explode on a new owner. VR4's in the area shot up in price range so that rendered them out of the question.
I'm truely happy about my car, I love everything about it. The way it rides, the sound, the acceleration, the looks, the car, I even savor the sound of the blow off valve and blew off at a neon on the highway by accident which prompted him to try to race me though I didn't want to (and didn't).
I wound up racing the old man in the eclipse because he wanted to see what all he payed half of for me. He got a good taste as we went from about a 20 mph roll and I walked right by after just going half throttle in 2nd.... Once the turbo wakes up you really fly on that thing....
Cliff Notes
-My "mystery car" is just a white base 91 240sx with the sr20det swap and some bolt ons
-raced the dad in the eclipse and walked by with minimal effort
-Pics and audio hopefully up soon
-The swap kept the air conditioning and its the nicest AC I've ever felt.

The swap is VERY clean, here are some pictures in the daylight

And lastly the can
http://pic.funtigo.com/img/i53914604_68564.jpg
As far as traction goes, I haven't had ample opportunity to test the limits of traction with the 240 and it came with tires that still have a lot of tread left. Since I'm still breaking the swap in and learning stick I don't plan on pushing her too hard until I get past a good 500+ miles.

Yah I've figured out its easier to start in 2nd and from there I can work up the gears... All I was thinking about when this car was getting swapped was driving it so I didn't turn out to be too bad a driver.

Nice car. Looks very clean. Why do you have to break a swap in? It's not like you changed any internals. Maybe a clutch, but that engine should be ready to go.

Is the motor used? Or rebuilt?
I love it when guys get motors put into their cars, that are obviously used (i.e front clip, swap package.) And act as if they have to break them in.
If you just bought a motor they had laying around, chances are it's used... and you don't have to break it in. Just go hammer it. Like the previous owner did.
Hell, the day I got my swap done I was hammering it. It's what it's there for. 9 months later it still runs fine.

Good point, I thought I had read somewhere among my research on swapped 240's that you should give it a good 250-500 miles before really punching it. They did of course put in a brand new clutch as well so thats part of it. Sorry if I came off as misinformed, I love this car and just want to keep her going for as long as I can.
Oh by the way redneck (or anyone else with the sr20 swap) what are your rpms like in 5th going 40? I just want to check to compare and make sure I have it right, on mine it says right around 2k or a little above if I remember correctly.

Well, if you put in a fresh clutch then that's understandable. I didn't at first... so I just beat the snot outta it.:D
Umm 5th gear at 40mph.... 2000-2200rpm sounds about right. I've got like a 3.9 rear diff with 205/50R15 tires... I max out at about 135-140mph at like 6800rpm? I hit the rev limiter in 5th... run outta gear. :(
Don't need to be going much faster in car that's only got a lap seatbelt and paper thin sheet metal for a body. :grinno:

My Honda has comparable gear ratios and I hate it. Cruising on the highway at 80 is 4000 rpms, and it's loud. I'd prefer 80 at 3000 rpms.

Well, at 70 mph i'm turning 3000rpm, and at 80 mph i'm turning about 3400-3500rpm.
It gets pretty good milege if you keep your foot outta it. I've gotten 28mpg with a few times into the boost. But mainly cruising at 70-80mph depending on traffic.

so how much did you end up paying for the whole dealy anyways??
RaidenKing
05-22-2005, 07:04 PM
for me the car was around $1,500 and the entire package with swap, accessories and install was somewhere close to $5,500-$6,000.
It all amounted up to $7,500 or so and I'm paying half on it as I'm still just a 17 year old with a low paying job and full days of school during the week.
I'll be taking her up to tampa over the summer for a good tune and hopefully have them install a boost gauge which would be inconspicuously placed on the dash somewhere. Right now if you looked inside you wouldn't be able to tell whats under the hood, its a sleeper setup with a loud roar to it.
Speaking of which, would anyone be up to hosting a sound clip?

how many people dont know that sr20's get swapped into 240s like every week?

Meh I did say inside didn't I? Thus meaning if you looked inside of the interior you wouldn't be able to tell its swapped. The average human being down here in this city will commonly mistake that front mount for a grill or 'flashy radiator' anyway so I'm not too concerned.
