How much would it cost me if I got my car scanned at advance autoparts or autozone? Also, will they definitely figure out what is wrong with a car?

If the check engine light is on Autozone will scan it for free. I don't know about Advance but the price is probably the same.

Advance will scan it for free as well. Just be careful. Take the codes they give you and post them here or other good sites for guidance as to what to do with them. More than half the time the codes only point you in the right direction - They are selling parts not diagnosis, and will sell you the wrong part more often than not. And if it is an emission related part such as an O2 sensor better go back to the dealer for the parts as the Bosch stuff in the aftermarket is junk for longevity.

Most auto parts stores scan for free. They are hoping you come back for their parts.
We had a guy on here that says he takes it to both places. I guess he thinks the codes won't be the same.

do they just scan for the ses light or can they scan for KR as well, if not, how would I go about checking it? Thanks.

Thanks for the info. The only problem with my GP is that the ses light comes on in the morning when i let it idle for about 5 mins. Once I start driving, then it goes away. Could they scan it without it on, because wouldn't the code be stored or something?

yes the code will be stored, and buy AC delco parts, as Bosch o2 sensors are JUNK!!!!!!

Just my 2 cents :2cents: but you know I'm trying to figure out how Autozone or Advanced auto parts stores are the cure all for everyone's odb-ii emissions related problems.

First off, Autozone's policy is it will not scan your computer unless the SES light is on. They are not in the business of helping you trying to fix your car and turn their parking lot in a garage but sell parts which of nine times out of ten don't fix your problem.

Not all odb-ii DTC codes are stored or pending, therefore, there is a high probability that there will be "No error codes" displayed and the trip to Autozone will be an excercise in futility.

I'd recommend either borrowing or purchasing an odb-ii scanner/code reader that has freeze frame data capability and the ability to generate engine PIDs since your problem is only there during the 5 minute idle time and you have no SES light on after that time.
