Alero Problems

I have a 2000 Alero with just about every option, I havn't had many of the usual problems with the brakes, rotors, or windows that I have read about.

My problems seem to be a bit larger, in October, I had to have the transmission rebuilt at 105,000 miles, since then I have had a problem with stalling and have spent nearly another $1000 dollars to fix it, and nothing seems to have worked.

I have had the Oil/Air Seprator, IAC motor, Coil Tower & Boots, and the ignition replaced, and the car still stalls, but not on a regulat basis.

I had an old Lumina that had a similar problem that ended up being a "TCC solonoid" could it be a similar problem in the Alero??

Please help

If the problem developed after the tranny rebuild did you bother to inform the shop that did the work. They should have offered some sort of warranty on their labor and parts. A part often overlooked by transmission shops is the torque convertor. I'd take it back to them.

Do you ever get a SES light? Regardless if on or off, you might want to get it to a shop that has an odb-ii scanner/code reader that can detect manufacturer specific DTC error code such as P18XX, etc. Many are stored but do not trigger an SES light. Most tranny fault codes such as a possible TCC solenoid lock/unlock should show up and maybe give you some insight as to what the problem really is. Your tranny is a 4T45E.

What engine?

It is the 2.4L

I took it to the same place that ordered the tranny, and they are the ones that kept putting all the other parts on it.

The SES light only flickered, but never stayed on and they told me that there was no code, but did say that they checked.

I do have an appointment this week at the actual tranny shop and I'll see what they are willing to do. Since I driv an average of 100 miles per day, the 12,000 mile warranty that I had on the transmission is already up, but the manager at the shop that sent the car to the transmission shop said that everything would be covered under warranty, I'm not sure if he realizes that the warranty is up. I'm hoping that since this has been an existing problem that the warranty will be honored.

When the transmission was done, the guy at the tranny shop reccommended that I replace the Torque Cinvertor as long as I was replacing everything else since there were 107,000 miles on it and he'd hate for me to have to replace it in six months, so I had it replaced

Apparently with the particular transmission that is in my car, this is a common problem among rebuilt transmissions.

The guy said that there was a tech sheet that just recently came out dealing with the problems that I was having.

It ended up being something to do the the torque convertor lockout, the TCC and the pump assembly.

They are repairing the car at their cost, the only cost to me is weeks worth of a rental car.

Thats good news and sounds like a good deal. At least someone out there has pity on us Alero owners. Let us know how it turns out.:bigthumb:
