Green Quick Connect Clip

Does anyone know how to remove this to install the fuel filter? I have been at it for 2 days now and can't get it off the right side... Please Help!

Grasp the filter and nylon fuel line fitting on the tank-to-filter line. Twist the quick-connect fitting 1/4 or a turn in each direction to loosen any dirt within the fitting. Use compressed air to blow out the dirt from the fittinge at the end of the fuel filter.

Detach the quick-connect fitting by pushing inward toward the filter and grasping the plastic tab around the connector and pull apart. If additional assistance is required to disconnect the fitting, tool J 38778 or equivalent can be placed between the filter and the fitting release mechanism to carefully force the two apart. Be careful not to bend the special tool.

I tried for over an hour to disconnect the quick connect fitting, it seems like its on super good. I first tried using a flat head screwdriver. That didn't work, so I bought the quik connect tool. The only problem is the area between the fuel filter and the quick connect fitting is too small to fit the quick conncet tool. So the tool really didn't help... I have read online that people use a hacksaw to cut the filter off, then insert the quick connect tool. I really don't wanna set my car on fire though..

heat it up with a propane torch and then...just kidding, try some pb blaster on it, and make sure you have the right tool, J 38778 at autozone. ive heard of many ppl cutting the fuel lines, my dads explorer they couldnt disconnect the lines so they took hacksaws to the lines and said we need to buy new lines at $200, we said screw that and took the truck back, bought fuel injection hose and fuel injection clamps and patched it up. still running strong. good luck.

These are easily disconnected once you know how. The green piece is a clip similar to the clips that hold the wiring harness to the body of the car. If you look real close you will see that the clip opens up , once it is opened push it part way out of the black hose end and the hose will slide right off. It does not have the clip that is shown on the Autozone link in the previous post. In fact the filter I just purchased had this clip on it which I had to remove before installing on my 2001 Cavalier.Hope this helps.
