Shifting in a auto

I've been told that I can shift the gears in my auto like it was a stick shift. From 2 to D3 to D4 in that order, and that it wont damage my transmision. I haven't tried it yet, is it alright to?

But yes that is correct, but again why? Are you going to put it in neutral at stop lights to pretend you got stick too? :alien2:

why not start at D1?

i think maybe if you can force the rpm go higher like to 6-7000 , maybe it'll go faster...

i know in my crx with the auto i have these choices P, R, N, D4, D3, and D2.

when i start in D3 and floor it, i get much better acceleration then i do when i do the same action in D4. D2 has piss poor accel. so i never use that, and i only use the D3 start when im seriously trying to beat someone, every other time, its in D4.

In my honda manual it talks about shifting up through an auto, but it says never to shift down. i know im not supposed to downshift my auto, but if i need some extra power i would downshift from my current gear and then re-upshift when i reach peak power.

My racing shifting is like this:
start D3, when car shifts into second gear, i downshift into D2, let it go upto about 5500-5800rpm(red 6500), upshift to D3, wind to 5500-5800rpm, then upshift back into D4.

Myself and a few others in the 4G forum have done this and notice much better acceleration and quicker throttle response out of our autos.

Hope that helps.

my shifting is like this: 1st gear, then second, followed by 3rd, then 4th, then after that, i go to 5th.

I have an EX automatic. Mine goes P R N D4 D3 2. I admit, I've done the shifting thing before myself. The auto just got boring and I wanted to see if it would actually work. It will only work if your car's computer already has tried to shift before you do. If you shift to D3 from 2 before the car wants to shift to 3rd gear, you wont feel anything. If you want to use your auto like a manual: start out in d3, shift to 2 when you want to go to second gear, then when you wana go to 3rd gear, go bak to D3, and when you want to hit 4th gear, goto D4. I dont recommend doing this though, because even though im not aware of it messing up your car, it helps you absolutely zero and that means a pointless risk of messing up your car. Oh ya, illuciv, 2 is for hills. Go stop your car on a hill and put it in 2, it won't roll backwards. :D

2 is also for snow :)
i use it during the winter here in pa...anything above it makes you slide like a mofo

ya having an auto sucks, but theres always racing chips! lol

using 2 for snow: ya basically it makes the car accelerate slower so you dont spin your tires (works when its raining too)

Shifting an automatic tranny like a stick shift is a bit ghey...

Learn how it works and learn when it starts shifting up/down based on throttle position.

If you live in a snowy area and aren't hooking up you start out in 2, which actually locks the tranny in 2nd gear. It's very effective when accelerating from a dead stop when the roads are bad.

This concept also applies to manual trannies, starting out in 2nd will give much better traction in ice/snow (due to the lower RPM)
