I bought a 1991 nissan nx 2000 about 10 months ago and never planned on doing anything to it b/c it was my first car. However I haven't found any other cars that i can afford that I like, so i've decided to purchase a 93 nissan nx 2000 in better condition (with t-tops this time of course). I was thinking about putting a sr20det engine into it and was just wondering what the difference in hp, torque, and whatever else information you could give me between the different types. ALl i know is that there is a GTiR and a bluebird and one other i've heard. It would help me alot if someone could give me the specs for even one of these engines and hopefully give me some tips on which engine would be best. I am just drawing up a bunch of plans for this car. I am stoked!

Personally, the Bluebird SR20DET is much more suited to your swap, being designed for a FWD tranny, it is much simpler to wire up and when done properly, can look almost factory in appearance. The GTi-R is good making about 185Kw at the flywheel but with 10psi instead of the bluebird 147kw on 8psi boost. Ultimately, the choice is your but they both have great potential.
The GTi-R engine also is much better for continued hi-rpm use but is more expensive to rebuild.
Go foe the Bluebird motor and fit the HKS lash killer kit(which upgrades the SR20DET to GTi-R spec without the quad-throttle bodies)
Good lcuk

I've been looking at many SR20DET's lately and since I have just recently gotten into cars I do not understand some of the specs and whatnot. I was looking at a S13 Black Top SR20DET, just out of curiousity it looks like it is rear wheel :S can anyone find this out for me? Also i was looking at a Bluebird SR20DET but on a few of the websites i've looked at it states that it is AWD transmission which my car obviously is not. I know there is no way i could fit a driveshaft in so w/e! I'm just curious as to what kind of SR20DET engines i could put into my 1991 nissan nx 2000, or if there's a difference the 1993 nissan nx 2000 as i was thinking about modding a 93 t-top and keeping my 91 as a daily driver. TIA.

Although i have a few mates with GTi-R's and they seem to go through clutches like Commodore owners go through Tyres! LOL! i would strongly reccomend checing out maybe a sr20ve.
very similar to the v-retard i men v-tec motor honda uses but with 2cam change over points!
you could also look at a rb20det but 5 days ago when i looked up prices for them in sydney, Aust, they were asking around $7000 aust.

ultimately i have been thinking about the sr20ve for my car, this total conversion will cost aprox $5000 for the motor then aprox $1800 for wiring harnesses etc!
If your on a pretty strict budget like myself the cheaper option would be the sr20ve, as far as i can remember this motor produces quite a lot more power then a standard sr20de.

regards Adam
p.s. good luck!:uhoh:

Hi Adam,
Actually, the SR20VE motors uses 3 camshaft switch points, being able to adjust valve timing and lift independantly. Reason, I know is that I own one in my N14 SSS but with a full Tomei 2.2 bottom end and quad throttle bodies!

Suggesting a RB20DET in a FWD Sentra is silly, the RB20DET being a straight 6 cylinder is strictly RWD only. RB20DET's are about $1000 from www.sssautomotive.com.au actually!
The SR20VE has about 140+Kw standard in Australia but a SR20DE Pulsar can achieve similiar power with basic bolt on upgrades and a decent tune & computer chip to suit.
The SR20VE will blow your budget if your fitting it to your N13 Pulsar, think more like $8000. Fitting a SR20DET will actually cost less with a drive in - drive out conversion about $2500.

Visit your local newsagent, pick up issue 6 of 2DMAX car magazine. The mag has a purple Supra on the front, flick thru to page 50 and read who the writer is... I am a mechanical engineer and a writer, I know my stuff.

If your after any help, feel free to send me a private message.
Personally, I would suggest a CA18DET if your fitting an engine to your N13.

Thanks mate,

Matt Mcleod
