RPMs Jumping?

I have a 94 Accord EX (F22B1) with ABS. I noticed when I am braking that my RPMs jump. I am thinking this is normal because I have seen this in other cars too. My car runs great luckily :) I am just wondering does anyone know what causes this? I am guessing maybe the engine is working harder because of the brake system working? Thanks

do you mean jumping continously? or do you mean the rpm goes down to about 1200 and jumps back to about 2000 couple of times as you slow down? if you answer yes to the second question...then its just your car downshifting to lower gears as it is slowing down assuming you have an automatic trans. not sure what it would be w/out more info if you answered yes to the first question.

It's normal. It's your trans downshifting as you slow down. As you slow down, you can see the RPM's jump up around 300RPM's as you slow. That's your tranny selecting the next lower gear

If not downshifts, you are just seeing the RPM change when the torque convertor unlocks, if it does it with a gentle brake application.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah it only does it a couple times. Yeah I noticed other Automatics do that too. I was curious about that when I first noticed it.
