Help! I brought my grand am to a mechanic to replace my heater core. Three years earlier I replaced the water pump myself. When I first noticed the drips under the car, I added a coolant system sealer to try and hold off the inevitable, it was the type that had aluminum particles in it. Needles to say it did not work and into the shop we went.
The heater core was replaced but the mechanic said the water did not circulate in the system. He next went for the thermostat and replaced it. Still no circulation. He then went after the water pump and found it to be fine. The man has had my car for five weeks now and it's killing me. Any thoughts/help??

Has he checked the radiator? I had one clogg up on my wife's 77 olds cutlass. It caused a big problem for a while. Once I figured it out all was fine.

Thanks Hoags,
That was done and still all ok. The mystery seems to be that the car will not build any heat. He has left the car running for a couple of hours and it never warmed up, the radiator hose never felt very warm. if at all.

deeders,
One other problem that I had on the 77 olds, after I replaced the rad. I still had a circulation problem. It baffled everyone that I talkwd to, finally we checked the water pump [pulled it of the car] and gave it a physical inspection and found that the impeller was spinning freely on the shaft, therefore the belt would drive the shaft but the impeller would just sit there and the coolant was not being circulated.
Just another thought,

well, if the car isn't building heat, are you just talking about the hoses not getting wrm, the heater not blowing any hot air, what? Is the engine getting hot? Do you have temp. guage showing coolant temp.'s? Does the fan kick on or have run- all -the -time condition?
