radio code

i recently had a new battery put in and i need a code. does anyone one for 2000 honda civic dx. i dont know if there is a universal one or just models or vin numbers. any help would be greatly appreciated

There should be a sticky about radio codes. Anyway, when you do take it to Honda don’t let them talk you into charging you an hrs labor to take it out of the dash and reset the radio! It’s a way they rip off customers! There is a code in the glove box, or under the armrest; they run that number thru the computer which spits out the radio code. The trick is you have to subtract the last digit that the computer gives you. You also have to try to find someone who will take the time out to do it for you @ the dealer ship which is like pulling teeth.

pull the radio out, write down the serial # and go to the dealership with the car. $5 gets you the code. when i went i was purchasing like $100 worth of engine parts so he gave me the code for free

I ran into this same situation after disconnecting the battery while installing an AEM cold air intake. Instead of paying the dealership or someone else for the code, I opted to purchase a new deck instead. The factory one was ugly anyway. However, there is a site that I used to find removal instructions for the factory unit. You'd be suprised at what all you have to remove just to get the deck out. The site is www.hondaunlockcodes.homestead.com I paid like $3.99 for the removal instructions. I think they charge around $25 to generate a code, but you'll still have to remove the unit first to get the serial numbers and stuff. Unless you really like the factory deck for some reason, I would just replace it with an aftermarket one since you have to go to all the trouble to remove it anyway. Just thought I'd put my two cents in.
