Power Top Failure
BMWZ3 Chicago

I have a 1999 2.8 and am having trouble with the power top. It started out being a random issue but now it will not go either way. I thought that there was a short in the switch so I took that apart and it started working again. Then it decided not to work at all. I ordered a new switch ($55.00) installed the new one. Still no response. Anyone have any ideas. It is so frustrating to deal with in a city like Chicago where the weather changes every 15 minutes in the fall and spring. HELP!!!

Hi.
The motor for the roof is in the trunk (we call it a boot), behind some of the lining. Perhaps the loose connection is in there. If you can get to the motor, you may be able to test the operation of the switch and all the cabling by using a multimeter and a helper at the switch.
I hope this helps.
