Dashboard Bad Bulb Indicators Light When Bulbs are Fine

I have a 1998 BMW 528i. The dashboard bad bulb indicators light when the bulbs are fine. The right-rear indicator has been on for about one month now, even though the bulbs are fine. Now the left-rear indicator has lit and the bulbs are fine there too. In the past, it seemed to do this temporarily only in very cold weather.

I've jiggled the bulbs and wiring and even rearranged the bulbs but id didn't help. I've heard owners with this problem take it to a dealer and that fixes that problem for awhile but then the problem reoccurs.

Does anyone have a long-term solution to this problem?

Thanks

I have experience this on multiple cars with the systems that detect "bulb out" systems. The way that the system works is it monitors votage across each "light". The systems like it when both corresponding bulbs are drawing the same voltages. When there are irregularities it thinks that there is a bulb out. The bulb may not be out but it is not drawing the same voltages as the corresponding other bulb(right different then left). Sometimes when you have a bulb out and you replace that bulb the the "light out" warning will still show up. What I recomend is to by new bulbs the light that is out and the corresponding light on the other side. The reason behind this is that if a bulb is close to failing it may be drawing or not drawing enought volt so the car thinks that a bulb is out. by replacing them both you will make sure that both are new and drawing the same voltage.

Another cause may be bad connection and that could be as simple as making sure the connection is right and make sure there is no corrosion on the conector.

I hope this helps.
