I'm having a speech on engines soon.

For brainstorming I did this:

I found out that it is really hard to do that kind of illustrations.

Phew. Engines are extremely hard to draw.

i know what you mean, i'm making a display poster for a friend,it's complete plan for their "KS350" its looks like a IS300 but its carbon monocoque. i'm drawin everything from turbos to valves for it. hard work. yours looks rreally cool, show us more !

I dunno anything about engines, but it looks good!!! Only I think that if you draw an 'assembly' that every part that fits in each other need to be at the same line...the most close 'abgaskrümher' isn't on that line...and I think it's funny to see what you did with the text hehe...how farder the part is, the text is also smaller;-)

your sketch only lack the turbocharger!....but I don't know if it would be a too complex image. Its a really nice display of an engine! Keep it up bro

If you have illustrator scan your pencil work and then render in vectors over your pencil...it'll be great.

I do pseudo tech renderings at work and for government clients from time to time.

Each started out as a pencil drawing then got refined.

Here's a simplified breakdown of a streak tube imaging lidar...click the start button it's animated:

lol...I love the voltage curve sweep action

Your work is good...there's lots of work available for people with skills like yours...do more

I'm impressed

Too many dots!

Which dots? zÜndkerze? Ölwanne? AbgaskrÜmmer?

Oh and lemorris thanks for your advice and examples.

In my circle of friends I'm well known for my technical skills and understanding. I'm interested in all that stuff. So there's where I actually see my future. Tech and Art. Seems to be the perfect combination for me. If I just were better at maths.

I just haven't found out what the 2nd Illustration displays. A Cruise Missile?

y'know, it might be easier modelling it in 3d first then take some sections or boolean out a chunk.

hmm.... now i'm tempted to put away the building and start modelling an engine....

damn.. must do the thing that gets me money first.... i must....

edit:
just knocked up some pistons.....

hmm, anyone know where i can get accurate dimensions of some engines?

I've never done any computer renderings until about a month ago. I used Adobe PS. I've never figured out how to efficantly draw a smooth curve on any computer program. But I scanned a line drawing off to PS and worked from that. I'd wondered how much of the work is created that way.http://img289.echo.cx/img289/6449/redwolfdogweb4td.th.jpg (http://img289.echo.cx/my.php?image=redwolfdogweb4td.jpg)

Yeah but I'm not that good in 3d modelling up to now. I did a few small things but i feel more comfortable with a pen and a sheet of paper.
Of course, the range of possibilities with a 3d rendering or animation is ways greater.

And indeed, finding blueprints of engines is very hard. For my speech, I found one of a Ferrari 360 Modena at http://www.smcars.net/forum/.
