I was pulling apart my 91 buick regal (3.8L) and noticed something like the ECU behind the glove box in the car, but that isn't it because my ECU is in the side of the engine. What could this be I never seen anything like this before. Also does anybody have any idea of where the Ignition module would be located, it is where the spark plugs originate from in the car. is it in the middle, lower half, upper half of the car?

The metal box you are seeing is the radio reciever if you have a square radio in your dash that would be just the control box
And Your Ignition control module is under the 3 coil packs, i have a 1988 regal and it is below the Exhaust manifold on the "Front" side of the engine follow your spark plug wires from the engine to the coil packs and they are bolted to the Ignition Module

alrighty, I;ll check that, how do you test it with a pilot light? (the ones that looks like the screwdriver except has a pointy end and lights up) Do I connect it to one of the wires? Would a cut wire cause the service engine light to come on, I get code 41 which is the cam and I replaced it so I beleive the wiring might of went bad, along with the coolant wiring (low coolant light on, when there is an abundent amount of coolant in it.)

if you want to have your ignition module checked the best way is to take it to advance auto parts or some autozones, can hook it up to a machine and it runs tests on the module and gives you a definite awnser if it is good or bad. the test light will only show if you have 12v at the wire you are testing and the modules require testing of resistance and also use 5v reference voltage at certain circuits, with your low coolant light there is a plug on your radiator about a foot below the cap facing the engine, if that is unplugged or damaged you will get that warning light regardless of coolant level ,and depending on which wire was cut it could set a code and make your service engine soon light come on and give you false codes

P.s. getting the module tested is a free service most auto parts stores provide. just make sure they know what kind of car and module because not all auto stores can check the GM d.i.s. modules but most can call ahead to save time! Good luck!!
