Hey guys and gals got a wierd question for ya all.....
I have a 1990 Cherokee 4.0l i6 4x with 200k on her now and i just love it to death ..... best vehicle i have ever had....now for the noob part....
when i first start out from a standing stop (does that make sence? too damn late tonight :screwy: ) i hear a sort of growling and creeking from the rear of the jeep....at first i thought it had something to do with the breaks....pulled off both rear wheels and drums and the breaks look great....fronts are in need of work but ok for now...but this damn creak and groan is driving me nuts .....especially at slow speeds in parking lots....it does not matter if its reverse or forward ....ok now where do i start looking :banghead:

The two things that pop into my head are spring eye bushings or U-Joint.

Hi chili,
yeah, I'd look at the u-joints too. If the are greasable (not likely) give them a couple pumps. You could also try some spray lube temporarily and see if that makes it go away, if so, get the u-joints replaced. Good luck!

Might check the differential fluid. Pop the rubber stopper out with a screw driver and stick your pinky finger in there. If it comes out dry, you are low on gear oil. If it comes out wet with oil and really dirty, time to change the differential oil.
