I used gray primer on my model and sprayed gloss red over it and it looks more like orange. Should I used white primer instead for red??

Hi, if your in the UK, the best thing for red primer is the halford plastic red. Its a very dark burgendy red, that when sprayed over with gloss becomes a nice bright colour

i'd go with either Halford's red primer or Finisher's pink primer! both works great!

Yes if you're after a really bright red, then white undercoat would be the way to go, depends what look you are after. As mentioned above pink is a common undercoat when using red, especially if you are after a more scarlett hue. Some of the really bright reds do cross over to the orange side so possibly that is the way the paint you used is ment to look?

If your black lays down too thick then thinning it would be the obvious answer, or are you doing that already? Remember it is better to paint several thin coats rather than a single thick one.

I've used orange as a base coat when I painted with Humbrol's red #19 and it gives a very bright red. Otherwise white is a good choice.

First question, what kind of paint do you use ?

As for primer, when painting White, yellow, red or anykind of light color, you need White primer.
