I want to get my cherokee lifted but my 97 has got 99000 miles on it and i dont want to lift it and have an engine problem in like two weeks. But I want to know if i should get a new jeep or rebuild the engine i have cause i want a 99 or newer black xj 4x4. What should I do?

That is not exactly high mileage on a Jeep. Often these engines go for up to 300 - 400 k miles until a rebuilt is required.
If your engine runs well, does not burn oil and has been well maintained, go for it.
BTW the lift kit is always removable, so in future, if you do buy a newer Cherokee, just install the kit from your '97.

Thanks for the feed back. My I6 runs great right now but the thing is I habve had it for probably 1 year now and at least half of that it has seen alot of abuse. I didnt take it offroad till like three months after I bought it and alot of that was muddin. But just recently i flooded it and it still runs strong. So you think i should at least lift it and run it for another hundered thousand miles or so before a rebuild?

LIFT THAT BABY!! Don't worry about those miles, that's nothing! My 96 had 124K and was running perfectly. You keep changing that oil, keep the filters clean, that XJ will last a long time!
How high are you planning on going? Details! What color do you have now?

my cherokee had 368,987 miles before she departed this world, and 198,000 of it was hard beat miles and that engine didnt make a sound.

i dont know much about jeeps but the ones you guys are talking about all 6 cylinders?
I heard before that the 6's run forever like you guys are talking about but the 8's and half as good?
Is that true?

The V8 is only available in the Grand Cherokees and the real old model Cherokees. The problem problem area is not the engine but the automatic transmission is weak in the Grand Cherokee, unlike the AW4 model in the regular Cherokee.
