I Hate The Police!!

Is anyone out there familiar with police statutes? I am wanting to know if one exists. I bought a car and had a few problems with the sales tax thing. So I havent had a chance to change the plates over. Well anyway the other night I was driving home from work, and a cop pulled behind me. Well he ran my plates and found that they didnt match my car. So he pulled me over. After a few tickets he let me drive my car home. He told me that the only reason that he stopped me was because of the plates. I was under the impression that the police are not allowed to run your plates, unless you have done something, am I wrong? I didn't know if anyone else had encountered a problem such as this and if so what they did about it. Or is there a statute out there? I live in Indiana if that matters. Thank you.

Call a lawyer. Try to sound like you're interested in their services and they'll pretty much tell you if you have a case or not.

Look, if you got a problem with your car’s paperwork get it fixed, instead of trying to get a lawyer who probably won't take the case anyway. Don't give the pigs a reason to pinch you!

If you didnt have your plates changed over in X ammount of time then yes you can get a ticket for it, a friend of mine got one yesterday. I dont think the ticket will get dropped if it has been over that ammount of time.

Cops can run plates as they please. I constantly have cops show up behind me, on my ass and stay with me for a few minutes, then dart off in the other direction. They run my plates b/c they think my truck could be someone that is a problem, when they see my record they find no need to waste their time.

Yeah, you really cant be pissed at the cops for doing their job unless its a real asshole thing to do, like pulling you over for no reason and then trying to find one just to see your drivers liscense.

The police are within their rights to run any plate at any time. Sorry you got pinched, but get the car registered!!.

Cops can your plates as they please. Why do you think they're in plain sight? Bet you didn't know that they can also pull you over for "probable cause"? Meaning, if you look high or too young, etc, they can pull you over. Sucks, but don't do stupid shit.

Along with Jason's point, The police run plates constantly on Vehicles, the majority of the time they are looking for warrants, prior offenses, etc.. They also run your plates to get background info if you commit a traffic violation, they want to know if you have a criminal background to warn them to use extreme caution before they approach your car. Calling the Police officers "Pigs" and saying they are "Gay" is out of line! :nono:

Cops can run a plate whenever the want. There are no restrictions on that. Get a police scanner and you can listen to all the names, type of car and the address that the plate is registered to.

The police are doing their job. If you have everything in order, you have nothing to worry about. Oh by the way if someone decides to still your car don't call the police...Call Illegal Eagle I'm sure he'll help you out.

numero uno, no matter how pissed we get that we get pulled over, they're doing their job and odds are, we were doing something wrong. numero dos, at some point i'm sure you were like "that moron deserves to get pulled over" and odds are, some one thought that about you. You don't hate the police when they catch someone who breaks into your house do you? You just hate them when you mess up and they have to write you a ticket or soemthing. I understand you're upset, we all get upset, but get over it pay the tickets and move on. Keep the paperwork up to date and you wont have this problem now will you?

Trust me, if you slam your breaks on and force the car to strike yours, and especially if its a police cruiser, I would stake my life on it, that he more than likely has the video camera rolling. this will show everything, and then you will more than likely also get even more charges, and every single one would be rightly deserved.

Exactly and also if you havent been driving for the past 10 or so years many cruisers have freaking grill gaurds, so there goes your whole backside which you must now replace, along with tickets, AND he will leave off without a scratch.

no theres alot of cruisers around here that dont have bumper guards

Yes. They can run your plates even if you haven't done anything wrong. That allows them to see if it is stolen and if everything is upto date. Generally you will do something so stupid and seems minor that they catch. Here people change lanes without signaling all the time cops will run plates for that.I will have to post quotes out of my text book from criminal justice last semester tomorrow or another day. I am too tired and emotionaly drained to use my brain right now.

Yeah I don't like cops tailgating me either but I know that the only way to keep them from tailgating me is to go the speed limit and keep driving...eventually they will get bored and will either pass you or turn around because you went to the edge of their jurisdiction.

As much as I would love to slam on my brakes and cause an accident with a cop sometimes I know that they would cite me for reckless driving and then my insurance would get jacked up, and for what? Two days after you get your car fixed another cop would be tailgating you.

In TX, if someone hits you from behind it automatically there fault (failure to maintain control of your vehicle), but also a cops word is auto. taken over yours, plus the dash cam,

I'll start over. One time in traffic court, I saw a guy get convicted of slamming on his brakes. He did it for no other reason than he was pissed at his gf, and a cop saw it.
