Motor Mounts

Just a quick question....if the mount on the transmission breaks...will is cuase the car to not shift into gear? We've had thumping sounds under the car for awhile and suspected a bad mount and today the car stopped going into gear, turning the tire manually causes the engine to look like it's going to jump out of the hood. No problems with the tranny or engine until this happened. Any ideas?

If you cannot move the gear shift, the engine may be restricting the linkage to the transmission. If you can move the gearshift through all ranges, but the tranny doesn't shift, the linkage may be broken, or you have internal transmission problems.
