Story behind the Civ

Alright, my PM box is flooded, and I didn't get a chance to read all of them or answer them for that matter. But it was funny TypeS how you mentioned that D15B to be worthless. I find it to be a bit more exciting than my last motor, which was a D16. Here's a little story as to how I obtained the motor.

As you already know, the D16 was completely gone. So, my father and I went to a Japanese Motor Exchange dealer in search of the new motor. We purchased the motor for $650 which was put on my Dad's credit card, which I was going to pay off in due time. Well, fortune smiled upon me. My aunt, who is quite a wealthy woman receieved word of my dilemma. My aunt and I are very close, not because she has money, but because we always depended on one another. So, once she knew the story, she gladly handed me the $650 to pay off the motor, just like that. It was a total shocker. So I received my motor for free.

When we picked up the motor, Kris allowed me to venture up to Ogden to take it to his shop. Kris, being the stud that he is, decided to show me how it was all done. We spent the entire evening from 7:30 pm Friday to 6 am Saturday finishing up the entire swap. It was quite an entertaining night. As some of you should know, or may have an idea of it, I was able to spare all my performance parts from my last motor. So thus the intake, header, pulleys, cam gear and camshaft were all swapped over to the new motor. And truthfully, you may not thing the D15B to be much, but truely it is. I drove that D16 for miles upon miles, and really it didn't feel up to par with the new motor I have.

So there you have it. The secret is out. The motor and the swap were free and I did learn much to my Civic. Thanks to Kris. I can't thank him enough. As far as the project B16 goes, that didn't even dent my wallet. So I still have money saved up, and I will continue to save up. Once the time comes, I also plan on selling this motor with what is installed. Which will be all profit, thus it will go towards the B16 project. So, around the end of summer, I can't promise it, I should be able to purchase my B16 finally. Once again, that is the sum of my story. Doesn't seem like much, and I told you guys there was nothing special. But, ya can't please everyone.

Interesting story... You got a free engine and you didnt think it was good enough to tell?

and as an engine ignorant person, isn't the D16B the SOHC non V-tec Cengine thats in my buddies 89' Civic? doesnt it make 62hp? Im guessing thats not the one...can u give me specs?

Really though, was it that hard to not even bother with the whole matter. Apparently so considering quite a few of you said "I don't give a fuck" or "who cares" and then suddenly decide to PM me to find out. Guess it wasn't that hard at all :).

IAs for the motor. It's the JDM D15B SOHC VTEC Vti.
130 Hp and as far as TQ goes, not the slightest clue, I'm trying to find out that part.
I can take it up to 8K rpm, but the results would be the same as my last motor. So 7200-7500 rpms are where I'm keeping it at.

hey cool congrats onthe motor swap. BUt you didnt beat a GTP with 130HP. I can barely walk them i should be around 215HP, they have 240HP stock.

Cool. Now how does it do against your dad's 3000GT?

Why not just save up for a turbo, instead of a new motor?

Of course I didn't beat a GTP with the stock 130 HP motor. I swapped over my cam shaft, cam gear, pulley, intake and header. Not to mention the exhaust is already there. Maybe puts me around 150 HP, I'm not sure.

Clawhammer, I actually thought about saving up for a Supercharger. Go the route Kris is going to be going. It's a tough call, I can't really decide what I want to do. But it will more than likely be the B16 route. Who knows though. I'm flakey like that.

you wouldnt beat it with 150Hp either, it still has 90HP more than you stock. It was prolly just a GT. Still a note worthy kill those are low 16's high 15's stock.

Not everybody likes to jump into debt, just to go fast. Chris obviously has his priorities straight. He needed something to get him by, as a means of transportation.

He never claimed to be fast, just that the D15 had more power than his D16 did.

theres a gutted D15 hatch around here with some bolt ons that can kind of hang with me from a roll. so they can be pretty quick.

If you are so pissy about the fact that I got the attention for not telling, then keep it to yourself. No need to bring it to an open forum and bitch and moan over the matter. Use a PM next time to.

I've never had any reason at all to lie about what I've done in the past. I said a probable 150 HP. It could be higher than that, not going to say it's up there at 170 or so, that is just being cocky and wishful. As for the GTP, it was a Mid 90's GTP 4dr. They are about a mid 15 sec car (Here in Utah may be higher due to altitude). Plus anything can happen on the road. There's no preparation, you just go with it. I won maybe by a carlength, never said I took the guy by a huge distance.

As for the Altima, it wasn't completely loaded with 150lb. + girls. They were probably sophomores. Weighing less than a 110 lbs each. Not that it made any difference because the Altima comes in at what, 175 HP? So, it didn't surprise me at all to take a win. I don't see why you make it a big deal over the matter that I didn't say anything. I've said it over and over that it isn't a big deal with me. Yet few of you just get pissed over the matter that I didn't say anything. It's the freaking internet. Grow up and live with the fact that not everything has to be told to you just so you get some sort of assurance and you can sleep soundly at night.

Thanks Kris, thanks dampy, thanks clawhammer.

Hehe congrats on your swap Civ. I have read your previous posts on what exactly happened to your civic and why you had to do the swap.

I have to say (even though its very late) that it sucked for the death of your old engine, but as long as you're back up and running again... hey! that's all that matters right? Hehe. And you got it all free too. Lol. I shall envy you . J/k.

It's true, that's all that does matter. I went two weeks without driving a vehicle. It was torture to me. Just two weeks even. Thanks for the congrats. I couldn't be happier at the moment. It's like I just bought the car again and I had the same feeling when I drove it home.

Thanks dampy. Like you said, I've never had reason to lie about winning races. Why would I? I've been here long enough, and it's funny that those past few members who showed doubt used to be the ones posting in my threads with comments like "Good race", "Wow you've got yourself a nice Civic there", "Sounds like your Civic is pretty quick", and so on and so forth.

Then when I don't tell them what swap I did, they instantly get all pissy and start spouting off how they don't believe me, or it wasn't possible to beat a this car or that car. Kind of amazes me how people here can flip flop just like that and turn their back on you just because you don't tell them what you have. Very childish in my honest opinion. Whatev...

I must say, Civ is quite funny when he is pretty tired.

We pulled a all nighter. But we had fun, or at least I did. We got to watch a few races out in front of the shop, which is always fun.

Its all about preferance I guess. For me I was going to go with a B18C1 or 5 for my civic, I could have, but I got a JDM B16A instead even if those engines, especially the C5, have more power than my B16A. And I drove a few type R's with that engine, fun to drive, but I like my B16A in my coupe even more.

You got pride in your engine, keep up the good work on it and show them all what the D's all about. And good kills btw.

If you think I'm funny when I'm tired, then wait until you see me wasted ;). That was a pretty cool night. Those guys we met were hilarious. I'd have to admit that that was probably the funnest night I've had in months, if not a year. Hmmmm, maybe when I get that B16 we should do it again?

Also incase you dont know, 2-3 car lengths in the 1/4 mile is about equal to .5-.7 a second second difference in ET, when it comes to running 14's and 15's. And honestly what you did alot of members think is very childish, it really was/is. We all respected your car and enjoyed listening to your races, we liked talking about the swap your going to do, there was a big thread about it. If you didnt tell us what kind of engine you had, your street racing post would have ment as much to me as BurntRice's did. That's the key to the whole matter. Had you been mature/smart/respectful enough, you would have left it alone. Sure ok he doesn't want to tell us, then that's cool I won't bother asking. Simple as that. But No, you have to drag it on like this. Clawhammer respected the fact that I didn't tell. Dampachi respected the fact I didn't tell. Robs71Nova respected the fact that I wouldn't tell. It's not that hard now is it. They got it, apparently you didn't.

I find it quite immature of you to bring this into an open forum. Honestly, have you heard of PM's ? I've said it numerous times by now to pm me if you have a problem. Get the idea. PM ME! You seem to be the one starved for attention by coming in here and trying to start a childish arguement over the fact I didn't tell you anything. Funny how it turns out like that isn't it? Well, go start your own thread of how pissed you are over the fact that I didn't say anything. Otherwise, it just doesn't matter to me.

Although, what I find childish is the fact that you still are dragging this on when the whole matter ended back in that other thread. I told other's to PM me if they want to know. They did. I told them. But seeing that so many wanted to know, I made this thread. I wasn't looking for attention as I have said quite a few times now. If you want to assume that I was, fine. Then you deal with it on your own time. If you lost sleep over the matter, take a nap now. But really, drop the whole freaking matter. You are turning this thread into something that it wasn't intended to be. Not me, YOU ARE . Other members have made their comments and have showed courtesy to me and also congratulated me. I thank them. Why can't you? Is it that difficult to get past the fact I didn't tell you. Grow up, move on, and drop the issue. If you don't remember me saying this, I'll repeat it again. Kris can support my words. He was there, he helped me out, he knows what I have done. Does he have to come in every thread and say so? No, but that's his choice if he wants to. If you want to yourselves, ask him. He'll tell you. He is my proof of what has been done. Do I have to tell you guys, hell no! I tell these stories because it gives me relief, and it's your choice to read them and post if you want to. I don't have a gun to your head yelling "Read my story!" do I? Nope. I sure don't. Don't like the fact I didn't tell you anything? Then take it to court and whine about it. Geez. Skip over my threads. Is it that hard to do, no it isn't. I've skipped over numerous posts without saying a word/posting. I'm sure everyone has done so as well. In due time, you'll forget the matter.

As for the B16 project, it's still in order. I have also explained that it will take me a long time until I do. It won't be until the end of summer. Do some homework Sherlock. I've said it in my past thread where I explained when my car died. How can you expect me to have it by now? I've never lied to any members here about what I'm going to do. I have made it very obvious and clear to you guys what my plans or. This motor for the time being is to get me around. I was very fortunate in the end. So, that's it. I've explained this enough. Yah I really couldn't agree with you more. I guess in a matter of perspective its him I see being hypocritical when he makes a random outburst about your engine "only being a b15" which causes me to view him as the one looking for attention. I mean c'mon man what were you expecting it to be?

Anyway, its cool you got that done and have good, fun transportation. I don't know a damn thing about the honda motors but having those high revs must be entertaining. Why a supercharger instead of turbo kit? Does the supercharger appeal to you more somehow?

Actually yeah it does. I asked Kris the difference between turbo's and superchargers. He learned me and taught me a few things I didn't know. So thus, the supercharger seems more appealing to me. Plus, I just like the word "supercharger". It tickles my tongue so :). Although, turbo's are much more efficient, all I really want is just a 12 second Civic. If not, a low 13 makes me happy.

Thanks for the support. The little motor has got it's own potential. Who knows, maybe if I can actually save enough up, I can do a B16 and Supercharger swap. Nah, just kidding, that's being too wishful there :). But really, to me it's just a coin toss when the moment comes. We'll see.

Well, sounds cool enough. I still dont know the difference between a B15 or B16, or B-niner, lol, but since what you have typically is not so special, maybe you got yourself a ringer?!

Nice break on gettin the freebie engine and mechanic work. Now, get that thing to a track and quit guestimating what it'll do!!!!

You think thats funny, try seeing Kris wasted. He walks around like a stiff board ready to tip over.
lmao!!

As for the status on my set up. The motor is now together and put in. Just waiting on more mandrel bends to fabricate the ic piping from the turbo to the ic.

Hell instead of the b16, lets jump to a h22 swap. It would run you about 2500. Then you will be in the 14 flats stock!

Hmmm...so you want me to go your route then eh? Maybe.... I don't know, the sound of going SC is awfully tempting at this point.

To get yourself to the 14's on a b16 and supercharger you looking at 4500-5000

H22= mounts, linkage, lsd trans, slim fan. 3000 total. Then you could upgrade cams intake header. That would throw you into the 13's. and still be under your b16 goal. and faster.

Plus me and krisare experts for swapping the h22 conversion into your vehicle.

Really? Now that you speak of it, the sound of an H22 is more appealing to me than the B16 project I was thinking about. For the cost, it will get me closer to my goal of 12's rather than going boosted just to get there. I just might go the H22 way then.

Although, the thought of the Supercharger was going to be for my little D15B that I have swapped in there right now. But, rather now, I think I just might do a little more work to it, then sell it before I do another swap then. So, I can atleast make some money back, and have it left over to put into the H22. You've completely persuaded me Steve. Kris may be disappointed to learn of this . Thanks for the info .

Be careful with the H22 though. Your car was not made for it. It does weigh a little bit more than the B16, and just because of the way it sits in the engine bay it will pretty much kill your handling. It's great for straight line, which is probably all you care about, but handling is not good with the H22.

you can make anything handle right if it is engineered correctly. there are springs made to handle the h22 in the civic chassis.

Thats true you can with proper springs...but you gotta wonder what an engine thats alot heavier does to your weight distribution, which also has an effect on handling

Nahhh, Kris will be excited. He once too had a mini h22 set up(f20b)
Ran 14's even with a accord tranny. In wendover. That is a long gear slug of a tranny for a na. If he would of tuned the f20b w/ the S2S2 cams and got a h22 tranny. I would bet he would of seen low 13's.

As for handling. Mine does just fine, I know its not the first choice for scca, but the torque... wow! Stock h22 pulls like a train!

I don't really plan on AutoX the car or anything. Like someone said earlier, straight line racing is more of what I'll be doing. I enjoy it more.

I talked to Kris the other day and told him of the new plan. Told him you persuaded my descision :). I took the time to look up the H22 and saw that it made a very good amount of TQ (161 TQ that is) not to mention the 200 horses to go along with it. I've never really looked into the H22's much, but now I'm very interested in them.
