I just bout a new 05 zx6 and after a month and about 5000 miles. the 3rd gear and 4th gear grind like crazy. They've seized the transmission 3 times already. Netrual light is on but the bike is still in gear, wont move even with the cluch in. I have to rock it back and forth to get it disanged. in all the gears u can hear clunking and grinding. Kawi says its an abuse issure and wont cover it. Total cost and repair is 2000+
thanks kawi

i visit some kawi forums pretty frequently and i've never heard of such an issue. sucks regardless.

I'm guessing you had one of the bad apples, they usually have a few every time a new bike is released. That's why I'd never buy a new first year bike.

I'm gonna go with Z and say that it sounds like you got a "lemon" so to speak. What "evidence" does Kawi give when they say that the tranny has been "abused"?

I have a 2003 Z1000 and it seems to be just fine, I also frequent a lot of kawi forums and there are many happy owners. Sorry to hear about your transmission. I would make Kawasaki PROVE that you abused the bike. It maybe cheaper to pay for a lawyer then a new transmission.

Update: I have a guy over at a kawi place that tore it apart.. 3rd gear was rounded off with 3 teeth (or what was left) missing. He said it looked like a casting issue. He had to order half a dozen more gears becasue of debris, new oil pump, and about $900 worth of parts. I just had to sign a waver saying that the transmission wasnt the result of the accident i had. I guess they didnt want to pay for any medical bills or have a law suit. even though i was ok:)

Does that mean that the transmission isn't junk, it was really your accident that caused the problems with the bike?
