3 warning chimes every 3 minutes

I recently had my 2 remotes programmed at a Pontiac dealership. They told me I had a hazard relay switch recall on my car so they replaced it. Well ever since that every 3 minutes I get 3 warning chirps. It even chirps when I am standing outside my car with the keys in my hand. The dealership has tried to fix it to no avail. I have read it could be the trunk ajar sound, if it is that, how do I get that fixed? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am usually on AOL instant messenger under BDMose27 so drop me a line, thank you!

BDMose27,
Seeing that no one else has taken a shot at your problem, I'll give it a shot. From your description it could be the trunk, but it could also be a door. It sounds like there may be a bad plunger some where either at the trunk or doors, In the older cars the plungers work off the ground side of the electrical system, meaning that when the door is open the ground contact is made, if you can get to the plungers check to make sure that the plunger is not in a constant ground contact. I'm not sure about the newer models they may be a switch type of system, I would check the wiring to make sure that the switches are not grounding out somewhere.
I hope this helps,

I'm gonna say that chime you are hearing has nothing to do with the trunk, since G/a's never chime if the trunk is open for a long period of time ( or at least mine doesn't) the 3 chime warning is normally a warning light on your dash, such as change oil light or low fuel, etc.... so If you say the dealer just fixed the switch per recall, they may have shorted something out causing the chiming... I would keep bringing it back until they fix it...
Oh yeah Welcome to AF, ( i always forget to say that)

Hey guys I really appreciate your suggestions. There is one additional thing. The dealer spent 4 hours chasing wires and didn't fix the problem but rather caused more. Now every time I start the car and put it in drive I get one short honk of the horn. Do you guys think it could have something to do with the programming of the remotes are do you think it's purely and electrical issue? Thanks again for your comments.

I think it might have something to do with the door locks. Normally, if you press the lock button while the doors are unlocked and open, you will get the three chimes to indicate that the car will lock after a few seconds delay when all doors are closed. Then, when the doors lock, you get the single honk of the horn. When you shift the car from Park to Reverse or Drive, the doors automatically unlock. Everything that's happening to you is supposed to happen at some point during the lock/unlock process. I can't put my finger on what could be causing it, but I'd have them take a look at wiring and programming related to the door locks. It almost sounds to me like your car thinks it is receiving commands to lock the doors when it really isn't. Are the locks doing anything strange at all?

Here's a thought~~~~~
Take the batteries out of your remotes, just use your keys to open doors, etc. I may be wrong, but it would seem possible that the remotes may be sending signals out above what you expect?
I don't know if you have the remote lock/unlock feature on the remote, but I presume ya do. The g/f's car horn will beep once when she remote-locks the doors, it a signal that the locks have activated. The horn also beeps when she activates the anti-theft feature, I believe it honks twice to say it has alarmed itself.

Good point, I didn't even think of that. Maybe it has something to do with the programming of the door locks....

I will try taking the batteries out of the remote and let you guys know what happens. I forgot to tell you it's a 2000 Grand Am GT1. The locks are not doing anything strange. There is another guy on here I talked to who had the exact same problem as me and the dealer replaced "some part" he could not remember what the name of the part is, dang. I think I am going to tell them to reprogram the remotes and see if that solves it, if not, I guess I will have to wait for them to chase wires. I will keep you updated and thanks for your replies! Have a good one.

BTW, one of the Moderators has a thread about programming remotes, it usually top of forum page, maybe that will help?

Yeah I followed the instructions and my car wouldn't go into the programming mode. Is it worth paying the 15 bucks for the instructions online or are the instructions provided on here the same?
