New member says hello

Hello to everyone,
I just signed on to this forum. Saw several nice subjects on road cars. I'm also a member of another group that models race car subjects. Its called GPMA-Grand Prix Modelers Association. I've been building more road cars lately so I thought I could share some of my models with you guys. Here are some pics of 2 models I entered at Tamiya/Con 2002. Hope you like it. Hope it works too.

The wheels look very nice, are they the standard wheels? Or some aftermarket one, it has a nice sheen, Chrome or?

Welcome, your models look fantastic!!!.. I think we would all like to know which wheels u used? Are they scale 18" or 19"???

Nice kits. What color is the S2000? Does it change colors when you look at it from different angles?

Your S2000 was one of the few that I saw at the show since it was right next to the door. I stepped into the room and saw your S2000 and was awed by the paint, when they told me to get out for judging :mad:

Where did you get that paint? I'd also like to know about your wheels. VERY nice looking!

The S2000 has rims, wheels and tires from Pegasus Hobbies in Montaclair, California. The wheels themselves are inserted into the rim, which is aluminium. To scale they would be about 23" wheels with about a 30 series (If that exists?) tire. Its got a very thin Michelin MXX type tread on it. The color is House of Color's Kameleon automotive paint. Very hard paint to use! Its named silver to green, but in life you can see green, blue, purple, orange, bronze, and black. Top coat is also house of color. This car took 2nd at Tamiya/Con 2002 in the factory stock class.

The yellow 996 GT3 started as a hard top from Tamiya and was converted to what you see. It has the convertible boot and sunvisors from and Italeri kit. The car is 95% Tamiya. Someone at the show thought it wasn't. I had to compete with the Porsche LMP spyder, the 350Z rally car, and the crazy looking red van. All were very creative subjects- thats why I didn't place in the extensive conversion class. The rims and tires are the same as the s2000, but were modified for the staggered look( wider in the rear with a deeper lip ) and the Tamiya factory GT3 wheel were modified to fit. The color is Testors chrome yellow enamel and Boyd's hi-gloss clear. A special thinner was used to speed up drying 2 days before the show. It was rubbed out and polished the night before the show.
Both kits were done within one half hour each other by 4 a.m. the day of Tam/Con. Sorry for the long thread guys. Takes more time to type. I'd like to post in the galleries someday and give you more description.

So the wheels are turned Aluminum??? Does Pegasus Hobbies have website or sorts? Much much much better than normal chrome...How's the pricing like?

The rims are machined aluminum and the wheel itself is chromed plastic.
Pegasus has a website, but its really bad and doesn't work half the time.
You'll only be able to get these in person as I don't think they do mail order. Here is their # anyways(909)982-6507- ask for Mike or Joe. They're priced at 15.00 U.S. rims, wheels and tires. The wheels are a pain soetimes to install because they are very large and wide. They need very large wheel well openings and have an odd style mounting method. Its as though they were designed for die cast models. This needs to be modified and the brake hub of the model you want to add these rims to will need to be heavily modified to look right. Its got a larger than Fujimi aftermarket style mounting piece, but does not fit the little inserts that go into the rim.

Great looking models. I especially liked your porsche. I built the Italeri Porsche 911 cabrio and put the 911 GT3 wheels on it. The paint is beautiful on my kit, but the kit itself was hard to build because of fitting problems.

I might try and build a 911 GT3 cabrio like yours. Thanks for the inspiration!

I should have introduced myself at Tamiya/Con. I was standing right behind you while you were explaining the wheels to another guy... ;) I still don't want to believe they're plastic. They look too good! :D

I live right next to Pegasus, so I went an looked at the originals the other day. Excellent work on your part! Also, if they don't ship, let me know. Maybe I'll just go buy stuff for you guys and send it out. ;)

I am astounded by the S2000, it looks superb!

Unfortunately my job searching has stolen all my free time and I am currently studying more computer books! I hope to spend some time modelling with you all again when I am settled!

damn man......your models look great......i remember looking through a bunch of pics from tamiya/con somewhere in this forum and i saw both of your cars........the color for the s2000 is great......so you used automotive paint huh?......that's tight.........i hope to see more models later.......:D
