First post and funny story

Hi, I am new here although I have been reading the post for a few weeks. My name is Karl I am from las vegas nevada and am 17 years old. My car is a POS 1983 chrysler cordoba with a 318 and some basic parts, Intake Manifold, 600 cfm carb, 360 heads. I've only won a few races with this car, 89 prelude automatic, 80's chevy 1/2 ton 350, 1G neon. Anyway, the funny story. About a year back I was driving my moms VW Golf, automatic 1.8 8v. I was at a red light, I glanced over to my right there was a 2000+ celica so just for kicks I reved at him and to my suprise he reved back the car had a body kit and a walmart rice can. When the light turned green I took of he must have been playing pocket pool at the time because I was ahead of him, It took him .00005 seconds to be on my ass I knew he had a faster car, and I had a freind in the car so I was not letting him pass, bear in mind i had only got my lisence a few weeks ago so i was pretty fearless so I was in and out of trafic dont know the speed but fast, still under 100 for sure but it was packed with traffic There was a red light with traffic backed up and so I flew into the Carl's junior parking lot and over the curb I looked in my rear veiw mirror he was there I flew across the street into my apartment complex where he did not follow but as I saw him flying down the street I had noticed that he had the rear of his body kit half off It must suck for him when he got hame and learned that was 200 or so dollars gone from racing a 85 golf.

I'm not going to tell you how stupid it was weaving in and out of traffic like that though, because i'm assuming you've already realized how dangerous it was to not only you but the people around you. Good luck in future races but next time make sure it's somewhere secluded so you dont endager yourself and others and you can continue posting here.

Ya ill be here and ill keep posting. I dont have the net at home but I am online every morning around 8:00 and frequently throughout the day since im at school. And I do realize how stupid that was now but back then, but I just cared about the thrill. And I was fearless because I had already been driving illegaly prior to that so I was an experianced driver.

That Celica driver must have REALLY been punching the clown to mess up against a Golf with atx. I feel sorry for him. I really do.

Your way to cocky, your what 17 years old and you think have experience? hell im 21 ive driven about everything with an engine at speeds most people are affraid to do in a car, and i still know i have little control when im racing and dont for a second think i have enough experience to street race.

I agree 100%, knowing that i just got my license not a long time ago as well (Im 16), i will not commit to race anyone or do anything stupid that will endanger myself or people around me. I wont street race untill i get the feel for my car and become more experienced in driving, not that i suck or anything... lol. but i still dont know what my car is exactly capable of doing looking at the fact that i just got it couple weeks ago. Anyways, im just saying that so you hear it from someone pretty much your age. Either way welcome, and good luck in the future!

the idea is to find a *safe* (well as safe as you can) environment to find what your car's limits are so you know how to handle yourself in adverse situations.

And ya I may not have the experiance in years but I can controll an F'in car as well as anybody.

theres your problem right there, you cocky. Every cocky street racer goes up in flames. Street racing is not something to be cocky about, cause when you get cocky you think you know everything and can handle everything. You dont double check yourself or doubt yourself when you should. The fact that you think you know a safe place to race is really stupid as well. The only safe place to race is at the race track or the drag strip. Anywhere else there are pleanty of dangers. I thought you would know that with all your defensive driving school. LOL and wtf is that shit about driving between 8 and 11? driving doesnt mean you sitting on mommys lap and do circles around the parking lot at sears.

When i was 17 i thought i knew how to drive and could handle the car. I thank god and my parents for not having a faster car. Otherwise im sure i would have ended up dead.

What great racer was it that said "The minute i'm not afraid to be out there racing, is the day that i quit" I think it was Earnhardt...someone who bit the bullet, there's no such thing as being a good enough driver to not crash, even the best drivers in the world constanty crash when they're racing, the difference is driving conditions and safety measures for them... If you truly think you're that good, then you may have a career as a Pro...but i doubt it.

This is why i wasnt sure wherther to post on this board, for some reason people seem to love to try and pick apart everyones storys call bs and try to destroy the person. And PWRDbyUNCLEbens I dont really car if you think I own an awsom 17 second car or not you are just the perfect example of the above statment. And I better refrase my statment, there are better drivers than me I was just pissed at the way that even though I said it wasnt smart what I did you still tryed to shake your finger at me. As far as driving at such A young age that was real full controll of the car driving when my dad was in cahoots with Bo Gritz trying to turn me into some sort of aryan soldier.

Ok, so you can control any f'ing car out there. What about the 80 year old lady in the 1975 Buick Electra 225 that is driving in your lane and the "inexperenced" 16 year old that is trying to drift their dads Camaro around a corner on your block. Ok I am not 16 anymore I am almost 18 now I just finished saying that I dont drive like that any more I usually race at the illegals or the freeway after midnight mayham at the drag strip when there is almost no traffic on the freeway outside of town.

no see your problem is your every typical 16-18 year old street racer. You think your invincible and you have something to prove to the world. This is a crowd of older more responsible people. We like hearing about street racing stories, we dont like hearing about reckless street racing stories. We also dont like cocky people who have something to prove to the world about there mad tight street racing skills.

Were not trying to pick you apart, were just not trying to encourage you and try and show you how stupid you are sounding. I see how my storie may have caused problems had I ever given the impresion that I was in contoll at the time because obviously I wasnt. There is no reason for behavior like that and I know that I apoligize for any negativity I am giving of but I feel I must stick to my guns with this. And I know full well that life is no video game and that there are no restarts but mabye at the time I didnt. I do belive no matter what is said that I am an above average driver albeit not the best or close to the best. I have seen some stupid acts of driving and at one time I thought that it was cool but now I frown apon it.

Amen to that. Everyone thinks they are better than the next guy, but sometimes that dosn't even matter. Nobody plans an accident, you can't totally prevent an accident but you can take certain precautions to make an accident less likely. And at age 16/17/18 consider yourself lucky to be an average driver, most of them aren't even that.

Most 16/17 year old drivers here are complete retards when it comes to driving. They pull the same stunts you're talking about that you did in the past.
