i bought a block out of a junkyard last year i dont recall the engine # codes but it was supposed to be a 350 4 bolt but its only a 2 bolt?? the truck it came from had the 350 label but it was a fresh motor(or atleast removed and painted
anyway other than pulling my heads off and checking diameter???
i can do it and probably will but i dont want to think that i have a 350 and only have a 305....
my freind owes me a 350 and i know that is but hmmm mine is in my garage and the one he has is still at his house...
also if i have roller lifters and could drill the holes for the spider hold down thingy coulkd i drop them in my 350????
and what kinda cam can i get to function on roller (why not just any old hydrolic cam???? to sharp of angles???)
also can i port the heads off of my 305 enogh to flow good for a 350 cammed up????
the heads are the 89 tbi ones

Look at the block casting code (above the timing cover or on a pad by the alternator I think). Go to NastyZ28.Com and look up the part on deciphering engine codes, It'll tell you where the engine came from, it's size, etc. Now if they've done anything to it aside from that, then you're on your own.

well ill try that the only thing being is that i looked it up before and it came up as a high nickle count four bolt 350 and its a 2 bolt????? its a 3970010 and i guees according to that page it may be a 2 or 4 bolt so i guess as long as its a 350 and i had connecting rod failure and not crank bearing failure and such i guess i should be good for now than ay hell icould always hope for the revving 327 lol
but atleast i guess its not a 305 sweet

That casting # is on all the following blocks:
302 4 bolt '69 Z28
327 2 bolt '69 truck or industrial
350 2 or 4 bolt '69-'80
You're going to wanna check out this website,

the most complete block casting # info I've seen,
carb tuning tips, and a bunch of other little goodies (BTW - Chevy website only :bigthumb: )

how about my 305 tbi 89???
i havent looked up the numbers yet but since they are my smallest cc heads would it be woth the porting and polish with some bigger valves?? or should i just try and hunt down some other heads that flow better stock then do those up???
i wannna rev to 6500 regularly and 7000 on the track any hints would be appreciated
just for peice of mind that was almost accomplishid on a stock cam but i reved to 6300 rpm,s regularly and never past it was like the sweet sdpot to bang second and 3rd (3 speed auto)
and then i decided to hold it open for a long 1\2 mile and hit 7000 rpms and approx 160 mph it was decent until i slowed back down and when i hit like 110 or so it started to klnock bad i thought that i ended up poping a universal and jam,med the brakes (other peopkle in the car lol) any way i slowed to a stop and the knock continued aaaah
oh well it was along grulling summer and worth every minute lol ripped a connecting rod from the shaft and dropped 4 pushrods and rockers and split the cam in three on the way home oops wouldnt turn over form some reason hmmm'
