well guys the time has come for me to hang up my celica hat...
naw JP im needin a little help, i got my first sponsorship (mabe) and im gettn hooked up w a motor for my car!!! and i have to debate on what motor i want, i seriously CANNOT decide by mylself so im posting on this site what i want to do and u guys are gunna choose for me, sound good?
no im not on crack, ive been on this site for long enough, there are a pentyfull amount of you who know what im/my clica are capable of, and there are the newbs who wouldnt know the diffrence between a F head to a G, but cna still make a logical choice, here are my options, and no, no 3sgte swap, im steering away from that, ive already completed one and ther not what im looking for, besides, in my opinion (no offence to any all treac guys out there) but the a series motors are better
ill list the stuff , Hp and cost (non sponsorship) below, keep in mind it could be more/ less Hp and money but i really am stumped and have no idea what i want to do and i need some help...wether or not i get sponsored a week after school ends a new damn motor is going in that car
4aF(z)e - this will net me the most power, taking my f head off my 4afe, buying a jdm 4agze and using the block (no supercharger) and swapping them, the stronger (but lighter) parts in combination with the bigger stroke and bore make for way more Hp then the bottem end of the 4afe could ever make. i would guess around 160-175 hp from this (it would be about 150 + but breather mods will be put on i/h/e) but ALOT more tourqe than the g head (or any of the other swaps) could make even with the supercharger, plans with this would be to sel the head supercharder, ecu, and wiering harness and use the money to buy a turbo kit and re chipping my ecu, therefore netting alot of power at a mere $600? non turbo ($900 chipped w about 180 HP) and $2500 turbo cost...keep in mind folks this will still be smog/street legal pre turbo, the other ones will either have to be illegal smogged, or pulled to put back in a 4afe every 2 years unless i sell this thing
20v 4age - yes i am willing to break california emissions with a swap (boo hoo) directly swap a 20v silvertop 4age, id immediatly have the ecu rechipped (due to the 100 octane and me only avaliable to 91) and re mapped and avalable to turbo later on, use my header on it (yes 4afe exhasut bolt pattern is the same as a g head but the last 2 bolt holes may have to be dirlled more slightly to the right) intake and get adjustable cam gears, id net around 200 (crank :( ) Hp with this setup. I love the 20V motor, it breathes REALLY good, expecially with breather mods (i/h/e, port polish, 4agze thrttle body ported to intake manifold etc...) you can easily attain 250 hp n/a with head work and ecu tuning as well as this motor is a screamer, ive seen em rev to 12 grand+. Though this does sound realy enticing (not to mention the engine swap alone would only cost $650 but ecu would have to be retuned for and extra $300) there are really no aftermarket parts avaliable for them, these motors were never sold in the US of A so even if i could find some they would be really expensive. i would eventually turbo this but it wouldnt be till around christmas time or so (ouch, yes im slow and a soon to be poor college student)
total cost of project would be around $1000+ to start swap w ecu tune adjustable cam gears and breather mods will be about 200 HP w a redline of about 7500...i can have good head work done for cheap around $200 for port polish and a valve job so that would net a good amoutn of Hp as well
high comp 4afe - again using my f head on a 4age block, but with a comp of 10.3:1 and a block with internals that are buit to withstand pressure. this bad boy could be boosted real easy. immidatly with this swap the block will be accompanied by my mods, a re tuned ecu, lightweight (9 lb) flywheel, adjustable cam gears and id buy bluetop G head cams (.7 mm more lift and 250 duration), id also sell this head for a lil bit of money...the ONLY reaosn why id even consider this swap is becuase with this, it woudl be the ceapest to do (450 for the motor and around $750 for the rest the stuff) and out of all the projects it would be the first to turbo.
i duno guys u tell me what u think, this thread has till ummm lemme think june 10th? till i want no one else to say waht to do, im not kidding whatever gets the most votes, is going in my car...
and btw i didnt do a "vote beucause i want people to POST what they think is best/most potential/what they would do and y, i wont consier a vote with just
"4af(z)e becuase it would be fast and cool"
thanks guys

I know you said no 3SGTE, but what about a 3SGE? I don't know how much it would cost but I know you could get a 3SFE from a 1991 camry and build it up to a 3SGE. Wouldn't it be easier to get 200+ hp from a 3SGE? Otherwise if you still don't want to use a 3S motor I would go for the 4AF(Z)E. Mainly because im the type of guy that likes to get the most response out of my motors and I'm sure you can build a 4AF(Z)E to get 190+ hp in a short time with a good power band.

naw im trying to keep within the A series, but yea the 4af(z)e will have the best tq powerband by far and have the best setup for everyday driving but for high end wise the 20v would kill...the only reason why im not directly going to the 4af(z)e is cuz it will only rev to about 6500 rpm
oh yea forgot to mention with the 4af(z)e setup ill only have to run 87 ocatne, with the others id HAVE to run 91+

okay im adding a 4rth choice, ill keep this short scince i just got back form the gym and i gotta take a shower
basically just turboing my 4afe, buying 4agze pistons and rods, retuning my ecu and running 10 psi of boost. ill get some headwork done and either use 4agze rods and pistons or 4agze rods with celica +.40mm over pistons this should be about 180 Hp at 7 psi of boost and about 210 with 10 psi of boost.
this will be about $1000 to do
so yeah theres the 4rth option so add that too, and im sure sigma will still like the 4af(z)e swap :)

yea, I like the S/C still =P I guess it kinda comes down to what target HP you want. Since if you're aiming lower wouldn't the S/C be better? And vise versa for the turbo?
87? That sounds like a steal. It can really add up if you like to drive/practice a lot.
But i guess if you do want more power go turbo. BTW what type of use do you want the car for? Is it for drag or auto cross?

im aiming more twards having an autocross/mountain run car, ima start getting into hill climbs and stuf so ima need plenty of TQ and the gze setup will do it for me so yea...
but im aiming for about 200 WHP on n/a setup and about 300 W on turbo by the end of summer...i know tat wont happen but i wil try
i will get at leats 250 Whp y the end of summer tho...turbo or n/a

ahhh scien ur a buncha biznatches i guess ima have to go with the gze
so yea i found a usdm 4agze in so cal ima prbo go pick up this up and coming weekend, ima immidiatly pull the pistons and rods and replace them with the jdm 4agze rods and pistons (their forged and come with 8.0:1 comp) and ima buy an aluminumflywheel and mabe an underdrive pully, eitehr that or use my 4afe harmonic balencer to reduce weight (extra belt rib for supercharger) so yea looks like everything is coming along nicley

haha, at 10psi of boost im hopin to hit 200WHP on a T3 turbo, hopefully i will but im sceptical, i would say no but it is going to get tuned by repoutable poeple
