You can bypass the heater core for the summer but why would you want to go to the trouble, it seems more prudent for you to just replace the heater core and put on new hoses. To bypass the core all you need is a connector to connect the two hoses together and a couple of clamps and tie the hoses out of the way, but come fall you will be right back in the same boat and will need to repair the problem then.

I agree with GTPDad, It is not worth the effort to bypass the heater core, It may actually be more hastle to bypass that to just make the repair. Do not put it off too long If the heater core desides to go you will most likely have the coolant leak all over the passanger side floor, once the coolant gets into the carpet it is a pain in the butt to get it cleaned up, This comes from experience.
I would suggest that you pick up a Haynes or Chilton Manual to get a step by step set of instructions to change the core. You can usually pick one up at a quality auto parts store for about $15.00 to $20.00, and well worth every penny.
Good luck,
