automatic shifter question

ok this is really weird, i put my car in OD, which i most always drive in OD, my car has p,r,n,od,d,2,1 when i put it in park, its kinda hard to get it into it, like somethings loose, when i drop down from p to od its in neutral. so i have to go to drive, and click it up one to be in od, i know my od gear isnt burnt cuz it dosnt kick into OD when im in d, and my shifter wont go into 1, the furthest down it goes is 2, and it use to go into 1. can this be repaired without much money? i really need help with this guys, im afraid soon i wont be able to get it into park or something soon.

Sounds like a shift cable problem or something like that, probably not something with the gears. Sounds like the cable just isn't selecting the right gear.

The cable has slipped at the transmission. Block the rear wheels (front & back) Jack the front end up so you can get up under it and look for the cable bolted to the trans pan with the end bolted to the selector on the side of the trans. remove the nut and the cable end from the selector. Put the shifter in N, move the selector on the trans foreward all the way, this is park. Now move it aft 2 clicks, this is neutral. Now hook the cable back up and tighten the nut without letting the selector move.
Have someone move the shifter slowly to OD, D, 2, 1 and then back up to park. You should hear a loud click at each position. If it is all ok, down jack the car and remove the blocks...take 'er for a spin.

I'm afraid that's about as detailed as it gets. The cable is hooked to the trans pan (see above) on the driver side to anchor it. Get under there, you'll see it and see where it hooks to the trans selector arm.

if everything is fine on the tranny end, there is also a plastic end on the other end of the cable with two tabs- similar to the tranny end but smaller. You can see it by removing the torx screws on the center console. If the tabs on either end get weak or break off (I've gone through two stock cables before getting a Megashifter) you'll simply have to get a new cable. They're pretty easy to put in.

Don't do all this stuff people are saying. When I got my transmission fluid changed the same thing happened, no 1st gear and it felt loose.
Mine basically happened overnight. The next morning I looked under my car because I thought some screw or something came loose. And sure enough there was a fat black screw. I took it back to where I got the transmission done, and after the screw was put back in it was back to normal. I recommend taking it to a transmission place and have them check it out, it shouldn't cost alot, if anything. It shouldn't be hard to find if you want to look yourself...good luck.
