hey i got a 02 sunfire and i recently bought a vibrant short ram intake for it and i installed it and plugged the sensor in but after about 30 mins of driving the T/C light comes on and then the gear changing gets messed up (from 1 to 2 gear it shifts really hard littlekickback andnoise) very not good so anyways i ended up taking the intake off putting the stock back on then drove around and 30mins later it went back to normal driving T/C light off and smooth driving so im wondering why this happened what would cause just performance intake to mess up the computer there and cause problems is this somewhat common? any ideas orsolutions? would appericate it thanks, Steve.

What kind of intake?? You probably installed the sensor wrong. Especially if you reinstalled the old intake and it went back to normal.

Its a short ram intake made by "vibrant" for the 2.2L sunfire non ekcotec, what consits of installing the sensor? all i did was unplug the sensor out of the old intake, put in the new intake plug the sensor into the new intake where the slot is for it, thats it right? no programming required? or am iwrong? thanks.

No shouldn't be any programming required.
However, make sure you take the actual sensor out of your old intake! The sensor is what the plug connects too. It should pull right out, and your new intake should have a spot to put the sensor. Just make sure you don't damage the sensor when your swapping it.

yup i took it out and put in the slot in the new intake fine but for some reasons its not reading it right just messes it up, i read after installing the new intake u can unplug the negative cable from the battery for 5 mins to reset your computer so it can learn of the new intake but it says do so at your own risk blah blah.. so im wondering how safe it is? to reset your computer i wouldnt think it could be harmfull but? anyways thanks, anyone else any ideas please? would love to get my intake in again and working!

ok i found the problem i didnt relize there was more to the sensor another half and that was still left into my old intake so essiental i guess i hade the sesnsor for the air intake completelly not working so anyways fixed that and evyerthing is good! car runs a lot faster now its very nice, one question tho is it ok to have the air filter hanging down there in the open? not bolteted to anything? also having the blue rubber band around the end of the intake and the metal tightening clip thing touching the engine just a bit? didnt seem to matter yet atleast.
