Hello all
I just got back from a trip from Pittsburgh Pa to Orlando Fl. and back. Total miles a tad over 2000. I got a avg of 39 miles per gal on this trip. Our ride is a 2004 Elantra with auto Trans. And that is at 75 mph at 2800 rpm. The only problem I had was the CD player(stock cd /radio ) will get very hot to the point the CD will stop playing. You had to remove the cd and let it cool down for about 2 min before it would play again. Anyone else have this type of problem

All I can remember from my old 1981 Datsun 510. Check if the fuse is burned out, if so, replace it. If not, then check the negative ground wire around the CD player to make sure the wires doesn't touch each other. Reminded me that my other cassette player in 1981 Datsun 510 was smoking up becuz one wire touched the ground wire. Make sure you follow the wires to where they suppose to be. If everything is fine..it's CD player which may be defective...then get a new CD stereo player. Some brands are not good thought. I can't suggest the best CD stereo player. They're all the same to me. My friend has the CD player and he replaced it three time, all came up "hot" for no reason.. But one he had a reason with the first one was the wires turned out bad..he replaced the wires but make his first CD player slower. His fuse was fine. My friend gave up the CD players. He now has a cassette player. <sigh> I hope it helps. I'm going to install the CD player soon in the 1992 Hyundai Elantra.

When I had purchased my 97 Elantra(Brand New) Around 28000 miles I noticed that the factory stereo(at the time the top of the line audio that Hyundai had) Would get really HOT. Took to the dealer, they replaced. The new one was doing it that night. Said F'it and put a Alpine head unit in. Never really noticed it after that. But the Bose Multi Disc in my Chevy Silverad does get really hot too. Probably something with the poor circulation that stereos get while being in the dash. ie Sun on the Dash, heat from engine, high use..just like any other "Computer" Item, High use, no circ..OVERHEAT

Yeah, I have had problems similar to this. Seems like it just depends on the specific stereo, but seems logical that poor circulation inside the dash would contribute.

YES, an ELANTRA does give this good of gas milage. I drove from Beaver Dam, WI to Effingham, IL on 9.7 gallons of gas... or about 43mpg on 72 mph @ 2550 rpm. The lowest gas milage I've had is around 29 mpg.

Although I don't use my CD player much (Satellite Radio user), I've never had this problem. I noticed in back of the Elantra dash however, it's pretty tight, and these things need to have air behind them to cool and I don't see how any air could get back there to cool these things off.

On a different note, I have an 01 Elantra 5-speed manual. At 75 MPH I'm taching a lot higher RPMs than you are...did Hyundai re-gear for the newer ones because I've always thought my car tached way too high on the highway.

Not sure about the re-gearing, but notice that his is Auto, yours is Manual. That probably accounts for the difference.

I assumed that it had accounted for the difference....
