air conditioner won't turn on

My mechanic replaced my 91 Nissan 240sx le engine which I put 298K miles on, and he put a used engine from Japan with only 40K miles. So far the engine runs sweet but the air conditioner is mysteriously not working. It will not turn on. The AC panel light also does not come on. My mechanic said it was the AC switch in the panel. But I went to a local junk yard and tried 3 different panels and all showed the same thing as my original, the only switch not working is the AC switch. So it MUST be something in the engine not connected properly. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Do you have any idea of wht engine he put in? He probably just didn't bother installing the AC and now he's just to much of a lazy bastard to do anything so he blames it on the car. And, damn, 300k???? lol

could be anything.. compressors, switches, relays... but yea the more interesting point is... what motor did he put in?! =P b/c it possibly CAN'T be a Ka from Japan.

If it's the SR he put in, most people don't hook up the AC due to the parts not being there with the motorset.

Let me ask you this, does car car seem ALOT faster now? If yes, you probably have the SR.

Thanks for the help guys, My mechanic got the AC to work by overriding the switch he claims. As far as the type of engine, I'm not sure but it looks exactly like the original which is the KA24DE? I have dual over head cams if this is of any help. I'm wondering if this new engine did not originally have AC and if this might be a problem?

Maybe you can ask him wha this unknown jap motor is.

i guess he just assumed the ka24 was japanese because its out of a japanese brand car?

if he/she is not into cars, i could see the mixup.
