a/c pump leaking?

while looking under my car i noticed what i think is the a/c pump ( the unit where the black a/c lines goes down the passenger side of the car in the front all the way to the bottom was wet with an oil. Anyone know what it is called and if there is a fix or something to check. I was looking online and it seems to be a costly job to fix.

Is the oily line a high pressure or is on the low side? Does your AC work at all? Mine went out a long time ago. Had to by a new hose and pay to get the system flushed and vacuumed to eliminate the moisture. I believe it was around $100 but that was 5 years ago. If you get it fixed make sure they flush it out and pump it down to get rid of any moisture in the system. All the best Chevy. Dave

yes it works wouldnt call it ice cold but it does work

If it still works you might want to look into the cost of replacing the pump in the future when it burns out.
The reason why I say this is because if you have the problem fixxed they'll have to discharge the system, fix the problem and then they'll tell you that you have to convert it to R134 freon, which is complete BS. They charge an arm and a leg for the conversion ($500.00 canadian when I inquired 4 years ago).
If the system is empty you can fix it yourself and any refrigerator repair person that is licenced to use freon can fill it for you.
It's apparently just a short course that anyone can take just to do their own repairs if they want

In my car the A/C had the same problem. I took one look at it and said screw it. The Escorts run off the old a/c stuff (r12 i think) and its a pain to get the conversion done because its suppost to be done my a certified mech.

With mine I said screw it ripped it off (45 pounds for the compressor alone) and had a braket made up to fill the space. The car runs better and I saved a lot of weight.

There are alternatives to R12 that anyone can buy.
It'll save you the cost of the AC conversion, and they work better than the new stuff
