Hi all im new to the forum i ahve a 98 old intrigue with 72,000 miles i have had it for about two months now and for some reason the car seems to be running hot, temperature light does not come on but the temp goes a lil beyond the 3/4 mark at times and when this happens the cars seems a bit sluggish, oil change and tune-up was done, all fluids are ok, i had a valve cover gasket leaking which was fixed hoping to fix the problem but no such luck. this also happens alot when im just sittin there with the car running, with a few mins the temp is back up again, once im goin again it seems to cool down a little but most of the time it is just running a lttle too hot it seems... any info would help and thanks

Check to make sure your engine fan is clicking on. It could be the motor or fan relay that's bad.

I would say anything over 1/2 on engine temp is too hot. Try replacing the thermostat. Oldsmobile made another thermostat part for winter drivers that were getting too hot, but for you this doesn't matter. Replace it with something that opens a lot sooner.

I just went thru the same thing with my 99. I changed the thermostat(only obtainable thru GM) and it did not fix it then I changed my water pump and it took care of it but you have to ensure ALL the air is out of the system. My mechanic and I did this by running the car at idle on a lift but ONLY lifting the front end, about 12 inches. let it run for a while with the overflow bottle cover off. It is supposed to have a relief valve somewhere but we could not find it. Watch your bottle to see if you get air bubbles comming up in it.
