04 Yukon electric pulse, DVD player conflict

I need some help!!!

I just had a major audio/visual chain store install a Panasonic 9500U overhead DVD player in our 2004 Yukon XL. This DVD player has the built in dome lights, which is common with mobile dvd players. The DVD player is installed where the overhead dome light was located. The installers refuse to connect the factory dome light wires to the DVD unit’s dome light wires, because they claim the vehicle’s electrical system sends out pulse's to check the electric system and when this happens it blows fuses and shuts the whole DVD system off. Anyone know how the "electric pulse" works??? I think this is BS, but I have no fact to prove otherwise. Sounds like they’ve been hooking them up wrong??? Any info would be appreciated. Could someone who knows the facts please explain how this works!!

Sincerely,
Brandon David

I think they are referring to the GM Class 2 Data Bus communication system...devices like the factory radio and Onstar are connected to it, but I can't say for sure if the dome light is...

Those guys sound like idiots. I never had any sort of problems but again, I sell/install a different brand. On mine, the light input is actually a switch input that a microprosessor controls. So, there is little to no draw on the wire.

If what they say is true, shouldn't you have problems now that they took the light out? If what they say is true, just use a relay to isolate the circuit. Actually, I doubt what they say is true becuase I can't see the OB2 system monitoring a dome light.

I have to agree...I won't give the store name (Circuit C???)

After talking with other installers I found out more info. It has nothing to do with the electric pulse thing. It has to do with vehicles that have the fading dome light. When the doors are shut the dome light slowly dimes until it's off. The DVD players dome light system gets confused somehow and either stays on or supposedly blows fuses. Not all DVD units have this problem. Mines a Panasonic 9500U 9" flip down. One store said they tried relays, etc...but no solution except to not hook up the door trigger wire and only hook up the map lights.

So for those looking at DVD flip down unit's make sure their dome light circuitry works with your vehicle before purchasing.

If anyone knows a work around let me know.

Thanks for your replies.
