Reduce power Light

My reduce power light keeps coming on when sitting at stop light and sometimes when driving. At that point If you step on the gas pedal you get nothing and eventually it dies and won't restart . If you let it sit for 2 or 3 minutes it starts right back up and runs fine. Its very intermitted but seems to be happening more often. Any ideas. It's a 99 3.8 V6
