Oil Pan Gasket

My oil pan has a bit of a leak. Looking at chilton's it is telling me to remove the engine to replace it.

Is there a way to change it with out pulling the egine? I was wondering if there is enough space to remove the pan , remove the gasket and place a new one in there? Has anyone tried replacing a gasket this way?
