94 Explorer Gas Gauge

My 1994 Explorer XLT has a full tank of gas, but the gauge is showing empty!! Where should I start? I have checked the relavent fuses - I think. Also sometimes after driving for 15-20 minutes the Check Engine light is coming on. Are the two related??

Thanks in advance!!the gas gauge is problably the float in the tank it happens to explorers 91-94 you have to drop the gas tank and replace the float,i'm in the process of doing it to my explorer. 91 but first check the wiring from the gauge to see if it is loose,i doubt if the 2 are related you should take it to get diganostic for the check engine light.hope i helped
