My fluid is leaking out the heater core drain, this was after it vented thru the upper vents.
I topped up the fluid and it justs runs thru the drain. Is this the heater core that is gone? It looks okay, could it be a drain problem? or is thi=s the core for sure?

The heater core will have to be replaced. I believe you probably have a split in one of the inlet tubes. The core will look ok but the tube usually can't be seen very easily. I wouldn't drive very far as you can lose all your coolant very quickly.

There is one possible temporary fix, toss in some Bar's Leak into the coolant. It may not help, if your crack is really bad, but if it small, Bar's will fix it until ya can replace the core.

My heater core died on my 94 Grand am last summer. So pulled both hoses off and cobbled them together with c-claps and copper piping. Make sure if you try this that you try this don't kink the hoses when making the loop. Be careful because both hoses run back into the engine block with plastic tubing.Draining the raditior out helps lots. It's a cheap fix if you don't have the cash to fix it right. The actual cost of the heater core itself is only 25-30 bucks. It's the labor that will get you. I ended up replacing my heatcore myself. I've found that like the chiltons manuals are worth the money if you do alot of you own car repair. You can buy them for under 20 bucks a carquest. Good luck
