2004 F150 instrument cluster upgrade

I upgraded form a standard XL instrument cluster to the XLT cluster with Tach. Now the interior lights dont come on when I open the door and I lost my "lights on" chime. But my main problem is that above my odometer reading are several dashes follow by F. Is this for display of exterior temperature? and if so, can I install the sensor so that this function works? thanks for any help.

I have a 2002 F150 Xl that I am about to do the same thing with a junkyard upgarde cluster. I am wondering if the the odometer reading will actually work and if you have to do any reprogramming to work around the PATS (passive anti theft) programming. By that I mean do you need a PCM flash or whatever theya re calling it these days (I have been out of the game a few years and things change fast)..

You will have to reprogram your PATS on your 2002 F150, which is pretty expensive to do. The intermittent odometer problem will eventually show up on the junkyard cluster too, because it's caused by a manufacturing defect--a cracked solder joint on the circuit board that powers the odometer. The best choice is to just fix your own odometer problem and keep your original cluster. It's very easy to fix and MUCH cheaper (free) than any other option. There's some excellent information on this problem and the various options & costs for fixing it at http://www.odometer-repair.com.
