Just had a simple question i'm always running my car at about 170*-180* i just wanted to know if that was to cold, i know running cooler is better for performance but is there any draw backs ?

ECM might not go into closed loop, so you'll have an emissions issue, plus not very ideal mileage.

Hey Smokey818, have you had any races lately?

no races but this last monday i got punked by a cop, i was driving and i was going around 45mph in a 35mph zone well the cop follows me and i was the first car at the intersection and the cop comes over the megaphone and tells me hey you in the red camaro do we need to have a more intimate talk or are you going to behave, so i just said sorry and waved my hands that there was no problem and i swear every damn car was just looking at me oh well i guess it beats a ticket.

yeah i've notice my gas mileage dropping i've ran my car to about 200* and i seem to get better gas mileage.

Dude, thats mad funny, "you in the red camaro, are you gonna behave" on the megaphone, only camaro would be capable of such things. Before i signed up here, i used to read the old threads and i read all of your victories over cars, my favorite being the NSX defeat. Priceless.

I have a 160* thermostat in my car. All that does, is allow coolant to start flowing earlier, helping keep it cooler. It will still warm up to normal temps.

That is something I need to do myself. Get that switch. Thanks for the reminder actually....probably order that today. :smokin:

My switch is manually too but... it the way i did it. I ran wire from the existing fan wire (which was burnt out) and attach to a hot lead that was connect to the swithc system in the car, so whenever i turn the fan on low inside the car, my cooling fans come on, but every once in awhile, my voltage meter drop to 10 instatly then goes back to 13. I'm gonna end shorting out my alternator soon... but it because of the way i set it up.

I have a single fan at the moment that's worthless. Plan on getting a dual fan, with primary funtioning normally with a adjustalbe switch, and the secondary fan on a manual toggle.

ive never heard of any draw backs and i belive the computer is considered warm, when it hits 160 so a 165 degree thermostat is probably the most favarable but i geuss its preference and id also rather have power than gas milage myself
