Oxygen Sensor

I have a 97 grandprix GT, I had my engine light checked and it is the front O2 sensor bank 1, which should be the one behind the firewall if I am correct? Anyone know where this sensor is(top of motor or under motor?? Also I should be able to use pliers or a wrench to remove it...anyone with any help would be appreciated.

Usually it is located right at the top of the exhaust above the catalytic convertor. You'll need a special socket for oxygen sensors to remove it. When mine went bad I had to take it to an exhaust shop to replace it as the sensor was so locked in I couldn't remove it without impact tools. I bought the part and took it in with the car. Don't get a Bosch sensor as I understand they go bad fairly easily. Good Luck.

Front O2 is located in the rear exhaust manifold near plug 6. Rear O2 is in the U-bend aft of the CAT.
