B20b crx project update: soon to be boosted!

Well, i haven't been on here for a few months, i just wanted to say whatsup and give an update of my b20b crx.
This winter i did multiple modifications. I got new tires installed, falken azenis...these tires are sick. I also got an SPC camber kit installed which helped my traction alot. For performance i have an SAFC installed, and aem cam gears all tuned. My head is also ported and has 33mm (vtec sized) intake valves and 84mm combustion chambers instead of 81mm (compression is lowered now to 8.3:1). This car is being built for boost and it's right where i want it now.
This car has been runnin' really good at the local street events. I'm assuming i'm running high 13's now extremely low 14's...i'm right there with camaros and srt4's. I ran a 14.2 last summer but now the compression is lowered which hurts HP even tho i'm getting better flow and air/fuel from the head and the cam gears and safc.
I also replaced nearly 90% of the interior with black Si interior including the seats. I only need new door panels and i'm getting the seats rewrapped in black vinyl this summer. No color in the interior, i'm keeping it nice and clean with an all-black look.
I have a garrett t3 (brand new), a revhard intercooler, rfl BOV, denso injectors and a bunch of other turbo goodies waiting to be installed. But the turbo project is being put on hold because I'm finally painting my car either this month or next month. I just have to go and cut the rear quarters out of another crx.
As for the turbo setup, I'm only gonna run 5 psi which will put me near 190 -200 whp with gobs of torque in the 2.0 to match. That should get me down the track close to 12.9 in the quarterI still need the manifold, wastegate and intercoole piping made.
I'm still having slight traction problems with the torque of the b20b and the short gearing of the y1 b16 tranny. That will increase 10 fold with a turbo, especially a t3 which is built to have full spool at just over 2k rpms so i'm almost 90% sure i'm gonna start looking for a good cable LS tranny to replace my b16 tranny. Besides, the b16 tranny is having me top out at 130-135 mph and I want to be able to do over 150. It sucks being on the highway and fu<kin wit people, and being faster than beemers, mercedes, wrx subies, etc until 130 mph where they creap past me because im almost hittin the limiter. Those cars can go faster, but they aren't quicker than me and it pisses me off.
Stay tuned!

good to hear everything is comming along nicely.
The one thing I would STONGLY recomend you do is get your Block sleeved... the B20 Sleeves are Very weak and even 5psi is not recomended... if this were b18 this would be a whole different story... I just hate to see you put all that work in and end up cracking a sleeve.
just food for thought.

Wow... sounds awesome!
I wouldn't wrap Si seats in vinyl though... maybe tweed around the bolsters...
What suspension components are you using to keep your car to the road?
Can't wait to see pics of the boosted B20 in your CRX...

well stock suspension for now. But i will upgrade to ground control coilovers 400 front and 450 rear spring rates with koni adjustables for shocks.
As for the 5 psi thing...that's a debate that will never end. I've got a friend running 10 pounds on a b20b in a 90 teg for 18 months now. There are people running upto 14 lbs on this motor. Tuning is the key. It always is. The sleeves are prone to cracking, but i've also already reduced cylinder pressure by lowering the compression even further to 8.3:1. Now, sleeving has crossed my mind many times, but they are very expensive. With the price of sleeving and installation, i could buy another b20b block. I'm gonna try it first on 5 lbs and then on 8 lbs. If that holds up then i'll stay there and i definetely won't boost past that till i get new pistons/rods/rings/sleeves/rod bolts/arp head studs.
But, this is supposed to be a "cheap" turbo build. I've spent less than $400 on the parts i have now including the turbo and VERY expensive rev hard intercooler. I just look out for the deals and work for parts too. All the horror stories are from people boosting 9 lbs or more on the b20b. I have found anyone crack the sleeves on less than 8 psi. But, those guys also had a crappy tune. I'm gonna use the safc and probably an msd boost retard first for 5 psi (which isn't that great btw) and then get the s200 later for the 8psi and up.
Also, with this small t3, there is going to be alot of backpressure created and alot of extra heat associated with it. the sleeves DO NOT like heat. So i am going to need to get an aftermarket 92-95 civic radiator and i am also water cooling the turbo with near 80% coolant to water mixture. It will be fine. I also have my fan hooked up to a switch for added assurance which helps me keep my motor really cool now and will help slightly with the turbo as well if i leave it on all the time.

kind of suspension related, i'm upgrading from the del sol si wheels to either some rotas or konig heliums in 15's sometime this year. Both the rotas and the heliums in 15's weight 12 lbs or less. Believe it or not the heliums only way 11.9 lbs (hence the name; helium!).

you know more coolant doesnt add to its cooling properties. water is a better heat exchanger than coolant is. coolant is only good for anitfreezing and boiling over. but if you car doesnt have any cooling problems, you shouldnt need the extra boil over temp

Turbo project update!!!
Parts sittin in garage:
Garrett T3 turbo .52/.48
RevHard intercooler
NSR technologies Turbo Log Manifold
TurboXS Type-H RFL Blow off valve
Denso 360cc Injectors
NGK BKR7E spark plugs (one stage colder)
Downpipe Flange
Vacuum Hosing and brass T's
Coolant hosing
Turbo Coolant fittings
Autometer CF guage pod
5 quarts of Mobil 1 10w30 synthetic engine oil
4 Gallons of Prestone Coolant
Parts in the mail (all ordered yesterday and today):
Fast-turbo.com turbo oil line kit
Tial 38mm wastegate
Intercoolor Couplings and hoses
ATPTurbo.com restrictor valve
92+ dual core aluminum radiator and fan
AC Autotecnic BOOST gauge
Stuff I still need:
Intercooler piping welded
downpipe made
So, basically, when i get the rest of that stuff in the mail, I'll be test fitting everything together. When everythings is fitted, I'll be towing it to a custom exhaust place called Karns Motorsports where they will be welding all of my Intercooler piping and custom fabbing my downpipe.
After that, stay tuned.
Sorry for still not having pics...i'm way too lazy...but i will try my very best to get 'em up when i do this probably next week.
Give me 2 more weeks and i'll be boostin'!

May I ask if you don't mind....what kind of shift linkage did you use? Custom? Or did you just use a Integra and shorten it? Is it possible to use an Integra without shortening it? I have a 91 CRX with a B20 and S1 tranny, but an Integra shift linkage. Too lazy to shorten it, too broke to buy a custom. Even if I were to shorten it I wouldn’t know how. So could you please help me out on this problem? Thanks
