2003 Dodge Grand Caravan Stalling

I have a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport with approximately 20,000 miles. Last weekend the vehicle died as I was coming to stop, I started it back up right away and went on my way. A few hours later started it back up and after going two hundred yards it just died. Wasn't able to start it (engine wouldn't turn over, nothing). Waited about 20 minutes started it up and immediately died. I had it towed to a dealership, they held it for three days and said they were unable to recreate the problem. Upon picking up the van, within twenty minutes of picking it up, it happened again as I was coming to stop, engine just died. Tried to start and nothing, waited a couple of minutes and it started right up and ran fine until I came to another stop.

The dealer said no codes are showing up on the internal computer and they don't have any idea what could be wrong. Can anyone give me any advice.

Thank you

Hi SanBlck, I am not a mechanic, but here is a wild guess. My neighbour has a gm pick-up truck. He was having similiar problem. He has the VAT ( vehicle anti-theft) on his key. Something went flakey with his chip on his key causing the vehicle to shut down. Is it possible that the caravan has security feature in the key or something malfunction with an anti-theft system? Do they have one?? Any one feel free to comment!!!

Hello sanblack ok, this has just happend to my 1998 caravan 91,000 miles , except mine runs fine in park idleing as soon as i put it into gear drive or reverse the rpms go crazy and the engine dies as well as pulling up to any stop signs. I took it to a mechanic who also said they cannot find anything wrong , i told them to let it sit at idle for about 20 minuites and then put it into gear ....BINGO they found the problem.
The flywheel bolts were shearing causing the crank sensor not to function properly there for stalling the engine cost was $ 500 dollars labor and parts . I just drove it lastnight 100 miles as i do everynight on a local paper route and it did it again while waiting for a train , started it back up ran fine for the rest of the night , but takes almost 4000 rpms to change gears wich is not right ,iam taking the van back in on friday after thansgiving .Will you give ya a update hope this all helps.
Shawn.
